did anyone else see real sports?

when they talked about that travel league for kids

basically these kids 13 and under travel around, week to week to play teams in tournaments sometimes across country

they play a 150something games schedule and they are much better than the little league world series players, it is crazy though, they cut kids if they don't improve, and it's like a militant league, anyway just wondering if anyone else saw that

I saw it. It's absolutely nuts. The one coach spent $55,000 of his own money on his team in a year. Having tryouts, and threatening kids with less playing time if they don't perform is just nuts for 10-12 year olds. I don't know if it was on the Real Sports, or the Season of the Toms River Little League team, but on one of those they showed a kid who was crying on the mound because he was having a bad outing. In my neighborhood, a 12 year old who has some trouble on the mound is given his chance to rough it out, most of the time being left in too long, and when he's finally taken out you know what he does? Goes over and talks to his friends, or his parents, or his grandparents about nothing and everything. That's little league.

glad to see someone else saw it

I thought I was the only one

The coaches justify it by saying, "Yeah, but these kids love doing it." I just want to punch them when they say that. The kids would love gathering up a handful of people and going to the local field and just playing, and you know what? They won't cry when they lose.

People like sight that youth sports are just a game, and they're meant to be a healthy diversion for kids as they grow up, to give something to broaden their interests. When they practice 30+ hours a week, they don't even have time to take any interest in anything else, and that's a shame. I know these kids love baseball, but I've never met anyone who loves only one thing.

The same sort of thing is everywhere...gymnastics, tennis, music, academics, chess, whatever...I would have loved to do something like that when I was a kid, beats spending your time trying make the honor roll...

yeah but one injury and those kids could ruin their career for good, at least with a degree and an education, they can support a family with that
