Yanks giving up on Shef for Vlad.

Not really sure how true this is, but I would much rather have Vlad. Like I said in another post, Steinbrenner doesn't want to look like he lost out this offseason. If they sign Tejada like some have reported, it will look like they lost Pettite and on Sheffield and they would still have to slide Soriano into the OF. Though that idea looks dead after the Yanks signed Lofton to be their everyday CF. Signing Vlad would be their smartest move.

Steinbrenner is really going for broke here and if the offers are similar in price range I think Vlad would take Baltimore over NY. He has said he doesn't want to be in a city where the media puts tons of pressure on him.

Baltimore is his better bet than NY if he's smart. If he goes to NY he'll be another Steve Sax or in more recent times Chuck Knoblauch. He'll put up good numbers but then the pressure of the NY media will finally catch up to him.

          From the article:
"Steinbrenner hasn't listened to many people lately, but his lieutenants are telling him the Yankees would be a better team with Vladimir Guerrero rather than Sheffield in right field."

This has to be the "thank you Caption Obvious" statement of the year. Vlad a better choice than Sheff? Really? Who'da thunk it?

Maybe Big George should spend more time signing checks and less time trying to be a GM.

I don't see Vlad wanting to go to the Yanks. Guerrero has hinted on numerous occassions that he feels more comfortable in low profile situations. He's not the glitz and glamor guy that some players are....so it could backfire if Vlad doesn't feel comfortable in New York. It has backfired for the Yanks before. Now granted...you get him...you get one of the top outfielders in baseball today. Cannon arm in RF, power, speed, defense...five tools. But you always have to measure a guy's psyche going to a big time team like this.

Of course...I could be completly wrong and he goes to Yanks and becomes "Mr. Bronx"

Sheff has came out today and said he is finalizing the deal with the Yanks he's going to take there offer.
