    Re: Minor Jays/Rays/Rox trade

Hard thrower or not Kennedy doesn't have much of a K/9 ratio to be proud of so even tho he throws hard he just hasn't been able to put his stuff together. He should do well in Colorado since the airiness over there favours fastball pitchers.

I really know very little about Speier but the way the Blue Jays stats/SABR freaks are talking, he seems like a nice pick up and "GASP" actually has a good K/9 ratio which is nealry impossible to have over at Coors.

Hendrickson is a good guy, he used to play in the NBA actually. He has some nice pitches but doesn't have the full compliment to really get guys out. He also has issues with keeping his head in the game but that's due to a medical reason. (ADD)

The best news out of this whole thing is Jays Killer Kennedy is GONE!

Speier is a pretty good relief pitcher. He's a guy you can depend on more often than not to get the job done. He has maybe a few bad appearances a season, much better chances than with Jose Jiminez, or even (dare I say) at times, Arthur Rhodes. Well, I wouldn't say he's that good. Close, though. Looking for a close-to-lights-out guy for ANY relief pitcher position, it's Speier. Just trying to give you something to compare talent to, which I'm often bad at. I guess to compare pitchers to give you a better idea, he's probably as good if not just a bit better than Rocky Biddle. Kinda like a "Utility Relief Pitcher". HAH!

      I suck at explaining things.

Hendrickson is a Lefty, Kennedy is a Lefty, both can have trouble, IMO Speier was the best player named in this trade. Jays gave up a starter, but got a steal of a deal for their pen. Kennedy could go either way, Hendrickson could end up being a decent 5 starter, I guess the Rays figured they needed a more consistent pitcher that they felt they had a better chance of counting on. Hendrickson isn't much of an upgrade, but it is an upgrade of at least minimal proportions. Rocks get Kennedy...who knows...maybe he'll flourish up there...hope so for their sakes. I'm not saying he doesn't have potential, I'm just saying up to this point he's been a little flakey. Who knows, though.

For the Now I'd have to say the Jays made out in this one. They've got Halladay, Lilly, Batista, and Hentgen, now they have a reliever who can pretty much do it all, pitch relief for 3-4 innings if necessary, and his ERA is usually well under 4.00. For Jays fans that don't know much about him, you'll be singing his praises soon enough.
