Say the O's end up signing Vlad, Pudge, Ponson and the rumored DH signing (either Javy or Palmiero). Could they possibly compete w/ the BoSox/Yankees? Those 2 teams still have questions (i.e. The BoSox had a lot of players have great seasons, can that happen again? The Yankees are OLD), and Toronto has improved itself. Just want to get some opinions. We were a bunch of scrappers last year.

Can the O's contend next year?
Question for all:

I think they can compete, but it's shaping up to be the toughest division in all of baseball. I'm looking forward to the new season already; spring training can't come soon enough!Comment

Re: Can the O\'s contend next year?
^ Exactly. Their offense should be improved quite a bit, and they will score a lot more runs, especially if they sign Guererro. To compete with NY and Boston though, they are going to have to upgrade their starting rotation quite a bit.
If they stand pat there, I see them and Toronto battling it out for 3rd place, with one of those two possibly having a chance to get hot down the stretch and overtake whoever is in 2nd place and maybe sneak in as a wild card.Comment

Re: Can the O\'s contend next year?
Supposedly Ponson is close to signing with the White Sox for a 3 year $18 mil contract. Even if that deal falls through and the O's sign him, I don't think they have the pitching to compete with Ny and Bos. If one of those teams fall through, I can see the O's making a run at the wild card. If they sign Pudge and Vlad they will arguably have the best 3-4-5 in the majors, but their rotation is will still be sub-par.Comment
