    A list of the players selected in todays rule 5 draft

    Detroit: C Chris Shelton from:Pittsburgh
    hit 21HR last season between A/AA, could stick as backup C for Brandon Inge

    San Diego: OF Rich Thompson from:Pittsburgh
    stole 48 bases between AA/AAA, traded to Kansas City

    Tampa Bay: P Alex Zumwalt from:Atlanta
    converted OF, had 2.22 ERA at class A last season

    New York Mets: P Frank Brooks from:Pittsburgh
    posted a 93/24 K/BB ratio in 87 innings between AA/AAA, traded to Oakland

    Milwaukee: P David Bennett from:Pittsburgh
    had 2.72 ERA and posted a 62/23 K/BB ratio at AA

    Baltimore: 3B Jose Bautista from:Pittsburgh
    struggled with injury's last season hit only .242 with 5HR at class A

    Cincinnati: P David Mattox from:New York Mets
    decent fastball changes speed with changeup and curve, should get a shot in the bullpen

    Texas: P Chris Mabeus from:Oakland
    had 13 saves at AA, the Rangers need all the pitching help they can get

    Colorado: P Matt White from:Cleveland
    went 0-1 with a 22.24 ERA in 6 games between Boston and Seattle last season

    Kansas City: P Jason Szuminski from:Chicago Cubs
    had 2.26 Era and had a 46/19 K/BB ratio in AA, traded to San Diego

    Montreal: IF Andy Fox from:Texas
    veteran IF hit .190 in 70 games for the Marlins last season

    Toronto: P Talley Haines from:Tampa Bay
    controll pitcher, throws strikes keeps ball down, can start or relieve

    Chicago White Sox: P Jason Grilli from:Florida
    former top prospect in the Giants organization, has been plagued by injury's, will get shot at the bullpen next spring

    St.Louis: SS Hector Luna from:Cleveland
    had 17 steals in AA last season, good glove but error prone

    Boston: P Lenny Dinardo from:New York Mets
    had 2.01 ERA in 85 innings at class A, finesse pitcher does not throw hard but gets outs

    Houston: OF Willy Taveras from:Cleveland
    stole 57 bases at class A, Astros need speed and could be usefull off the bench

    Detroit: P Mike Bumatay from:Colorado
    had 69 K's in 55 innings at AA last season, could be left handed specialist out of the pen

    Colorado: IF Luis Gonzalez from:Cleveland
    hit .318 in AA last season, can play all four Infield positions, may make team off the bench

    Boston: P Colter Bean from:New York Yankees
    had 70 K's in 69 innings at AAA, slow velociti, fastball only reaches low 80's

    Detroit: P Lino Urdaneta from:Cleveland
    had 4.29 ERA in 44 games at AA last season

    all players chosen in the draft must remain on the teams active 25 man roster or the disabled list for all of the 2004 season or be offered back to there original team for $25,000.

    I dont want to say the Pirates were raided but 5 of the top 6, Yeesh

          Poor Indians always get pillaged in this. We've lost 5 players in each of the past two years...and we lost Hector Luna twice in the past two years (just can't keep the poor kid).

                Ah yes, Rule V's are brilliant aren't they KT.

                All I can say is that Pittsburgh got raided.

                            I saw this earlier today....man the Pirates got RAPED!

                            Let's hope for the sake of the Pirates that some of these guys get sent back.
