    Who still plays?

I'm sure theres a wide range of ages here, but I do know that everybody here loves baseball. Who still plays the game?

I don't play competitively or anything, but every now and then me and friends go to a local diamond and hit balls around.

I'm playing in a league this spring for the first time in 3 years. Although I have been throwing for about 6-7 months now, my arm strength is not nearly what it once was when I was say 18-19.

        Re: Who still plays?

I wish I still did. I actually think I might have had shot to be real great(lots of people in the leagues I play in, told me I should sign up in specific leagues which are much bigger). Sports to me seems like all in risk. You either go all in trying to actually make a career out of it, or just don't go for it, and go for more realistic careers.

If I can find a good league when I get older to play in, I might go and play again, but don't see me playing again as long as I'm still going to school(my school does have baseball team, but it's at a diff campus, and practices/games are at like 8pm)

          Re: Who still plays?

For the past two summers I've been playing in a 19+ adult league. I played one season at the JC level but I quit because this is how my fall and winter went:

Wake up at 5 am, drive to school by 6 am for morning workouts
          Conditioning from 6-8 am
          Class from 9-12
          Team study session from 12-12:30
          Practice from 1 til 4-5
Get home at 5:30, eat, do homework, sleep.

Rinse and repeat every day for 4 months, not worth it IMO

Anyway, this adult league that I'm in is pretty neat, the competition is a tick below college, but there are quite a few guys who played D1 and a couple who played in the minors. The best part is that all you have to do is show up and play, so it's perfect for me lol

            Re: Who still plays?

I'm joining an adult league this summer that is the same way. The past few years I did the 18u rec leagues, me and my buddies had our own team and I coached it, but this year I have to play with the old men. I played a few games filing with them last year and it was a ton of fun.

I played for a few years in high school, then kind of lost motivation and didn't play the last year. Didn't like all the work that went into it. I wanted to just come home from school, hang out with my friends and play sandlot at the park and not all the traveling that came with baseball. Plus I had to have good grades to play, and I skipped all the time and enjoyed it too much. But now I'm working out everyday, hoping to play for a college next year.

I'm thinking about buying a Trapeze glove. But they are 220$. But they are so nice.

Heh, I couldn't cut it in the Little Leagues, so there's no way I would go out and play the damn game. I would like to get back into the game in other ways though; I've thought about taking the test to become a umpire at the lower levels of the game.

Just a warning, if you thought high school baseball required a lot of effort, college baseball is a whole other beast. However, If you can handle the grind then you'll find the whole experience quite rewarding lol

Yea I know, I've changed since high school. At that time I would wanted to relax and hang out. But now I'm focused on playing as much as possible. It's a grind that I'm ready for

Yup. Played 4 years of college baseball and it gave me an immense appreciation for professional players. Our season began in January with practices/exhibition and then our regular season would kick off first week of March and run into May. During that stretch we played 7 games/week with double headers on the weekend and usually 2 days off in the week. It was draining and your body was number by mid-season. I was basically doing it for 4 months and MLB does it for 7-8 months...no wonder guys take stuff to get on the field or jog out a no brainer double. Again, gave me a much greater appreciation for what they go through (and I certainly wasn't traveling like they do).

I would love to. If I could still throw a baseball 90 feet on a line. Elbow is wrecked.

Haven't been able to play for the last there years. Retrocalcaneal bursitis, plantar fasciitis, bone spur... don't even know what to call it anymore. It's a true SOB.

Once I'm healed, I'm getting back out there ASAP. I still play catch (with a softball since I coach that, mind you), and I haven't lost too much of anything in my arm. I'm sure I've lost a lot of running ability though.

I do & I think I might be one of the youngest ones on here haha but I'm on my varsity baseball team as a freshman and we go to school from 8-3 practice 4-6:30 on days we dont have games but games start in february about 3-4 (sometimes 5) a week usually games are either at 5:30 or 6:30 sometimes at 7 but on game days we have to be on the field ready to go 90 mins before first pitch its so fun though i love it and im pretty good for a freshman i play a few innings a game (we play 7) and get an AB or two for now. should be a starter by next fall if everything goes the way it should!!

Just told my team I won't be playing this summer. Needed a summer off after six years playing competitively as a LHP/OF/1B.

There's a lot of bs you deal with on teams. Was mentally strained.

                            Hopefully I won't miss it.

I played at the D1 level in college and am currently coaching at the D3 level. I've been throwing a couple of times per week with one of our players and my arm actually feels pretty good. I might try to get a bullpen in, in a couple of weeks and see how it goes. If I'm still good by the summer I'm thinking of joining a men's league or possibly playing independent ball.
