Robby Alomar & Jeff Cirillo news from ESPN TV

    From the 11:00pm Eastern SportsCenter:

Robby Alomar is close to signing with Arizona, no details announced.

The Mariners and Padres have agreed to a trade that will send Jeff Cirillo to San Diego for Kevin Jarvis, Wiki Gonzalez & Dave Hansen.

The Alomar deal makes sense, but I can't figure out why San Diego would want Cirillo. What's wrong with Sean Burroughs? Maybe they plan to turn around and trade Cirillo somewhere else. Otherwise, this trade doesn't make much sense.

Man the D'backs just love old guys no?

Cirillo will probably serve as competition for Boroughs who so far is turning out to be a bust. I like Boroughs tho the kid is tough. Maybe Cirillo will be traded as you say but I think he'll stick for at least half a seson if he's gonna get traded.

What makes you say that? That is so far from the truth it's not even funny. Cirillo will be Burroughs' backup and ballboy.

Why would Boch even consider giving Cirillo a starting job when Burrough's rookie year (worst year) was better than Cirillo's whole stint with the Mariners. Heck, Burroughs is improving and there is no reason to put competition against him, c'mon, he already took Nevin's job, who's better than Cirillo.
