Great Site on Twins New Ballpark Proposal

Gov. Pawlenty's Stadium Screening Commitee held a meeting on Tuesday and listened to proposals on the Twins new ballpark plans. Financing for a new park hasn't been discussed as of yet but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. The Twins' proposal compared this stadium to the Excel Energy Center, which was built in '98 for the NHL expansion Wild. The Twins also suggested that a financing plan similar to the one used for the Excel Energy Center be used to fund the Twins' ballpark.

The park's capacity would be 42,000 and would have the least amount of upper deck seating in the majors with approximately 12,500 in the upper bowl behind homeplate. The concourses would be open to the playing field and twice as wide as those in the Metrodome. There will also be several lounges and themed restraunts as well as a team Hall of Fame and a merchandise shop that would be open year-round. Most importantly, the Twins would control all 60 luxury boxes in the new stadium compared to the Metrodome's 115 private suites, which are controlled exclusively by the Vikings so the Twins don't see a dime of the money from those suites.

The stadium's turf would be natural grass and would have a retractable roof in case of inclement weather. I believe the bullpens would be behind the outfield wall in left-center. It is unknown which community will host the ballpark, but it is likely it will be either Minneapolis or St. Paul. More information available on the site.

Those are great concept pictures of this ballpark. I really like the view facing St. Paul but knowing these things i'll probably face Minneapolis.

          YES they fixed to look!

If anyone's seen the old drawings, they DIDN'T look too fun... it kinda looked like Coors Field actually.
