At least his 2004 season was more productive than last year.

On a serious note, he should retire. It's most likely he won't though. He'll pull an Albert "Don't call me Joey" Belle and sit at home with his injury while the Mets pay him millions. Who could blame him if he does?

I'm SOOOOO glad they held a ceremony for this.. & yes, the front office did a wonderful job in offering a low ball contract to Vlad... no wonder why Shea is always half-empty..it's funny.. the mets say they want to be like the Yanks.. HAHAHA.. (ps i am a met fan since '85).. hmmm.. can't wait for that awesome RF combo of Roger Cedeno & Timo Perez..

Yeah, he should retire... Mike Piazza's a WAY better first baseman.

If he retires, he forfeits the remaining two years of his contract, and a guaranteed $17 million dollars. The Mets owe Vaughn $15 million guaranteed for this coming season. If Vaughn is out for the entire season, insurance will cover 75% of his salary ($11.25 million). That is $11.25 million the Mets will save in 2004. The Mets have a 2005 buyout of $2 million (which they will most certainly exercise). The $11.25 million they are saving is being earmarked for Guerrero's deal. Doesn't anybody else find it curious that Vaughn made his "announcement" just as the Mets made an offer to Guerrero? I really believe Guerrero will end up with the Mets now. And if that is the case, I am ordering tickets.
