If Vlad really wanted to play in NY he would have. But he went for the most guarenteed money. The Mets Deal could have paid him the same amount, with incentives only for at-bats not performance. He knows his back is messed up. His agents know his back is messed up. I hear the mets never even got a call so that they could counter offer. If he really wanted to play in NY, the mets may have had one last shot to up the ante. Am I dissappointed, a little. But when you throw 70 mil. at someone, they should be able to play 140 games per year. Vlad's back is always going to be an issue.

Yeah it's typical that the Mets blame not signing him on doctors. They are a classless organization. They said they didn't sign A-Rod because he wanted his own office. They say the doctors' opinion is the reason they didn't sign Vlad. Does Fred Wilpon really think Mets fans are that stupid? FYI, Wilpon didn't want Piazza either...Doubleday demanded that the Mets got him, and that move brought them to a World Series. They don't have any good minor leaguers besides Kazmir and Huebner, they passed twice on two of the best players in baseball, where are they going?

I don't think Vlad even wanted to play on an east cost team. His agent just used the O's and the Mets for offers so they could take them to another team and say look this team offerred me this much for so many years, Can you better this?

If Vlad really wanted to play with the Mets his agent would have let them come up with a counter offer rather then just calling them to let them know they got a better deal and they have decided to take it. I think thats why the Yanks went after Shef from the get go because they knew Vlad had no intention of playing in NY. Anyway, thats just my take on it. I think the Mets are better off. Outfielders are a dime a dozen. Id rather them go after some pitching. They
Angels are going to have to play Erstad at first now because of the guillen signing. The Mets should offer the Angels a trade for Anderson or Erstad and move Floyd to right.
