Quietly, Tampa Bay is starting to put building blocks together for a good foundation. There is no risk in signing these guys so what's there to lose? And Lou Pinella will make sure these guys reach or get back to there potential, as he's one of the greatest managers of the past 20 years. Tampa could really be a scary team to watch come August and Sept. They could knock a few teams outta the playoff race with the talent there getting.

Tatis will get a shot at the starting 3B job, if he hits and wins the job then Blum will be used in a super Utility role.
Mike Williams and Todd Jones will also be given every oppertunity to make the team, they are exactley what Pinella likes: veterans, and should be part of the Devil Rays revamped bullpen,
this could be a very interesting team to watch.

They've done a great job this offseason. The AL East is such a powerful division, though. Its sorry to see that teams like Toronto, Baltimore, and Tampa Bay...who have done a great job improving themselves, will still likely be 20 games out. I can see Toronto winning 90 games this year and not even sniffing a Wild Card. Yikes.

I wouldn't discount the Orioles just yet. Besides, the Yankees look like there on the brink of a meltdown.
I mean the hiring of Jerry Krause as a minor league scout is about one of the most comical things I've EVER seen.
Why didn't they just hire Dan Marino? Oh yeah, he's already got a 'job'.Comment

Re: Devil Rays sign intruiging 8 to Minor Deals w/ Spring Invites
I was surprised when I first heard of these signings. These can only be seen as a positive for Tampa Bay. Because most of these guys have shown signs of talent at one time or another. Tatis has probabily shown signs of the most talent. I mean how many other people have hit two grand slams in one inning?Comment
