Re: Tigers make offer to Pudge....
Talk about a good offer. He wants multi-year, was hoping for 3 years, either 4 years will be a dream come true or he'll possibly just be okay with it. I still would prefer they go for Pitching instead, but as long as they plan to do more than just sign pudge I'm okay with it.
Read around, ALL REPORTS are that he wants 3 YEARS, 30 MIL. 4 years 40 mil is one more year at the same damn price. How would that possibly be considered a bad deal? Regardless of whether or not they are a good team, it's a good deal. Considering the moves they've already made, getting pudge would add another 10 wins or so. He's shown he has what it takes, and he'd no dobut be the staple of the Tigers Organization. Whatever happens, as always, I shall repeat:
PITCHING

Re: Tigers make offer to Pudge....
I like that move for the tigers. Tie him up long term, so we don't get another Juan Gone situation, and Pudge is a great catcher, he can groom our young guys for the future. He's a bit older, but he's got time left, and he'll split between catching and DH anyways. It may be overpaying him, market value wise, but we're talking about the Tigers. They realistically have to overpay good players to get them to come here. Illich knew about that going into the off season, he even said at one point he was willing to overpay if that's what it took to get good players to the tigers. The whole 'youth movement' didn't work, so it'll be nice to have some solid vets in town. I just hope Pudge signs now.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Tigers make offer to Pudge....
yeah but i mean come on, I was happy to see him leave Florida, yeah i'll miss his Defense but, hes not worth the 10 mill a year for a 33 year old catcher with injury troubles...If you want someone to really groom your pitchers go after an older veteran pitcher who can help them...alot of people dont realize that pudge didnt call the pitches in florida so i dont think he'll help the pitchers as much as everyone says...except if someone gets on 1st there not gonna get to second by stealing.Comment

Re: Tigers make offer to Pudge....
I think the Tigers can benifit from signing Rodriguez, they have a lot of young pitching on the team and a lot of pitching coming up, and a good veteran Catcher like Rodriguez can help bring them along, they also get the bonus of an offensive Catcher, something they have not had since Mickey Tettleton left,
even if having Rodriguez only improves the team by 10 wins, remember this is a team that lost 119 games last year, so 10 wins for this team is nothing to scoff at.
The Tigers probable lineup with Pudge:
CF Alex Sanchez
2B Fernando Vina
C Ivan Rodriguez
DH Dmitri Young
LF Rondell White
RF Bobby Higginson
1B Carlos Pena
3B Eric Munson
SS Carlos Guillen
Not a bad lineup, i think they will improve by more than 10 wins next season.Comment

Re: Tigers make offer to Pudge....
I agree with Stoud and Rsox, this is a very good move for the Tigers. I believe they have had one of the lower payrolls in all of baseball the last few years and with the young pitching coming up it should remain that way so then they can acquire a veteran starter or 2 to also help with the young guys next year. Pudge may be getting up there for a catcher but he played through some injuries for the Marlins and proved that he can still be very durable. I think he can help this young staff out and that 10-15 win improvement is not out of the question.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
