I felt your pain. No lead was ever truly safe when Koch was Toronto's closer. He'd always leave runners on base and they'd better have at least a 2 run lead because odds are he'd allow a run along the way.

It was a miracle that the Jays shipped that albatross to Oakland for Eric Hinske.

Chicago guranteed him he would be the closer, thats why he chose to sign with them. As for Koch, who knows?

That isn't what Rotoworld is saying:
The White Sox didn't offer Japanese reliever Shingo Takatsu their closer's role in order to sign him.
It still appears that Billy Koch and Damaso Marte will compete for the job in spring training, with Takatsu acting as one of the team's top setup men. His signing is expected to become official tomorrow. Source: Chicago Sun-Times

                        Thats not what ESPN.com says:
"One of the sources said Chicago was the only major league team to offer a closer's role, with the others proposing Takatsu become a setup man."

Perhaps its not a guarantee, but it looks like at the very least he will be competing for the job.

Koch should not be competeing for the closer's role after his performance last year. And any guy with the nickname "Mr.Zero" is good in my book
