    Re: Maddux Rejects Cubs Offer!

    Eh.

He would've been a nice, dependable #3 or #4 starter for the Cubs, but they'll be almost as good without him. And now that frees up some more money for long-term contracts and other moves.

As for Maddux... I don't think anyone's going to offer him more than the Cubs. But if he feels like he has to have that much to play again.... maybe he should just retire.

I have a better idea, let's slowley torture him with paper cuts, we'll use all those bad contracts he's negotiated, and let him bleed out.

Maddux is a fool to reject that offer. He isn't worth what he is asking for and after the year he had last year he has something to prove and should not be commanding such pay. Look at what Roger is getting in Houston, Maddux probably isn't as good as Clemens and should get a similar contract, not something over 10 mil.

Agreed, Maddux is a "junk" baller, not a power pitcher, therefore he is not going to get the kind of money he is seeking, also he is not getting any younger, the 7+ million the Cubs were offering was more than fair,
what this sounds like is another case of the agent telling the player to hold out, we'll get the money, the only reason he got 15mil. last year was because he won his arbitration case, the Braves were not about to give him that willingly,
the market is closing fast, Maddux better make up his mind which is more important: 300 wins, or money he may never get.
