Re: MLB.com: Cubs/Maddux talks still on
Boras is a liar. I think he does a disservice to the players he represents. Teams don't want to deal with him, which forces some of his clients to take less money than they otherwise would because there are fewer teams bidding for them.
Last year, Boras said publicly that an unspecified team had offered Maddux a 5 year, $75 million contract. A total lie, in the hope that the Braves would buy it and offer Maddux a comparable offer which he would accept, and thus look like he's taking a hometown discount. The Braves did not buy it and Boras/Maddux accepted the Braves offer of arbitration, which wouldn't have been offered had they thought there was a chance Maddux would accept.
So fast-forward to this offseason. The Braves never even presented Maddux with a contract offer, because Boras' demands were so ridiculous. And after being burned by it last year, the Braves did not offer Maddux arbitration. Boras is still demanding ridiculous money, but now he doesn't have the Braves offer of arbitration to fall back on.
You may notice that the two highest profile free agents still available (Maddux & I-Rod) are both represented by Boras. I don't think that's a coincidence, and I won't be surprised if one or both of them are still un-signed well into February.
I'm kind of rambling, but bottom line: If not for Boras, Maddux would still be a Brave. But I'm not bitter.Comment

Don't try to tell a Cubs fan sad stories about losing Maddux. Anyway, agreed on Boras, not that I know Maddux, but a guy like Boras just doesn't seem consistent with Maddux personality at all, but maybe that is why he hired him.Comment
