Won't happen. They will acquire someone who can play 3rd, some way, some how.

I don't think the question is whether they will acquire someone...the question is : who? What are the options so late in the game...?Comment

The options at this point are not to good, but here are some:
Cory Koskie, Koskie will cost the Yankees a lot in minor leaguers or cash in trade.
Edgardo Alfonzo, the Giants would gladly send Alfonzo to the Yankees, which may not be good for the Yankees, as Alfonzo still has 3 years left on his contract.
Jeff Cirillo, unlikely, but possible.
Robin Ventura, as i staed in another post, Ventura could end up the Dodgers regular 1B, so the Dodgers may not want to trade.
Adrian Beltre, i think Beltre in New York could be a disaster, they would expect him to produce, and he will not like that.
Ron Coomer, not a great option, but Coomer did have a decent year for the Yankees in 2002.
as for Gary Sheffield. Sheffield has not played a game at 3B since 1993, while i'm sure the rest of the league would love to see Sheffield at Third, i think that would be a last resort.
the in house candidates are, Miguel Cairo, Enrique Wilson, Eric Almonte and Tyler Houston.Comment

Re: Sheffield might play third for the yanks??
Rob Neyer wrote about this very subject today on espn.com and his candidates were Adrian Beltre and Wes Helms. He doesn't think the Giants want to give up on Alfonso and thinks he will be there at least until July. And apparently some weird rule prevents Ventura from being traded to NY before June. I personally can't see the Twins parting with Koskie, he's a decent player and they have no one to replace him with.Comment
