They don't even need a big bat over there, just someone to play solid defense. With their lineup, they're going to score runs regardless of who is playing third. Unless something falls in their lap, they might go with what they have- Cairo, Wilson, Houston and Almonte, and then wait until mid season and see what teams are out of it and try to swing a deal.

Re: Sheffield might play third for the yanks??
Don't hold your breath, but one New York reporter is saying Steinbrenner should get A-Rod for third base. I know he has nearly infinite funds for his team, but thats a huge contract to just tack onto that payroll. And why would you put arguably the best defensive shortstop in the league at third base? To keep Jeter happy? Please. I'd be shocked if anything came of this, but with Steinbrenner anything is possible.Comment

Re: Sheffield might play third for the yanks??
Dooch hits the nail on the head, they don't need a superstar. Scott Broscius was the perfect 3B for their line-up because he was solid with the glove and a clutch hitter, though definitely not a great hitter. Really, I've always felt Boone was a bad fit for them because there'd be a lot of expectations considering his great offensive numbers in the hitter friendly Cincinnati parks. And considering Yankee stadium is a better fit for lefties I'd of gone hard after Corey Koskie. Really, I'd of never traded Robin Ventura to begin with. Another case of Steinbrenner making things worse with his greed.
However, I would imagine the Yanks need to make a move. Drew Henson is the worst possible fit in my mind. I guess we'll see what goes down.Comment

Re: Sheffield might play third for the yanks??
I wouldn't be surprised if they got Ventura back. I know there's that clause that he can't be traded until June 15th, I believe, but if he waives it, they can make a deal.
I read an interesting rumor/proposal online today. White Sox get Erstad and Washburn from Anaheim and prospects from the Yanks, Angels get Konerko and Jose Valentin from Chicago and prospects from the Yanks, and the Yanks get Glaus. Don't really see that happening though.Comment

I dont think that they would have to wait untill june 15th to trade him, i thought that was only if he signed with another team as a free agent...but i could be wrong.Comment

Being as the Yankees don't have any prospects of note (their top rated prospect is Dionar Navarro, who is at best the 3rd or 4th best catcher prospect in all of baseball), I don't see this happening.Comment
