Why are the video games this year labveled the year 2003???

EA started it a few years ago, and everybody else had to do it or it would look like they were releasing an out of date game.
Now some companies are trying to go back to releasing games with the current year on them, and are running into the same problem. It won't change until all game companies decide to do it, and they never will since one will always feel like it is getting the advantage by using a future date..... so we have to live with it.Comment

The only sport that has this problem is baseball. Every other sport extends over two calendar years, so it seems logical to see Madden 2003, NBA Live 2003, or NHL 2k3.
Since it doesn't make much sense for baseball, you're starting to see publishers try to adjust back. EA named their baseball "Triple Play 2002" this year. And Sega didn't put a date after Xbox WSB, so there won't be any confusion if WSB 2003 arrives next year.Comment
