The only good thing is that ARod doesn't hit well against the Sox. The only pitcher on their staff he hits well is Ramiro Mendoza, and he has yet to have an at-bat against Schilling in a non exhibition game. And I suppose if you're a Nomar fan this deal increases the likelihood that he will be back next year. And lastly, Steinbrenner is going crazy with his money and the last time that happened the Yankees were terrible so we'll see how it works out this time. Pitching will win championships, and the Sox still have the better staff.

I'll say it now, come playoff time, if these two teams are fighting it out in the ALCS, Curt Schilling is more valuable in a 7 game series than ARod is.

Couldn't agree more, Sully. Pitching always beats hitting.Comment

Starting staff, maybe. But it's so close it's really hard to pick one. Yanks have the overall better pen, top to bottom. So the pitching staffs, IMO, are pretty damn even.Comment

Re: any good for RSN??
I disagree, I think the Sox have the better pen. The only edge in the pen I give to the Yankees is Rivera over Foulke, and thats no slight on Keith Foulk I'm just going by reputation. Though the only three closers to have a better save percentage than Foulke over the last 3 seasons are Gagne, Smoltz, and Hoffman which is pretty good company. Timlin, Embree, and Williamson have proven they can be lights-out and they will have decent supporting cast to fill in the holes. I like Gordon, but I think Quantril will be a bust and so will Karsay. The rest is mediocre.Comment
