Re: 6/10 - 6/16 Game Discussion Thread
I have been reading/hearing a clamoring for MLB to do something to protect pitchers after Cobb's incident yesterday. While I do think they should look at it, I'd hate to see them overreact and do something just to do something.
Maybe I'm off base, but shouldn't it be on the pitcher to not take himself out of the play? You never saw/see Greg Maddux or Mark Buerhle get hit like this because they make themselves a 9th fielder as soon as the ball leaves their hands. Too many pitchers are falling away and unprotected...I'd start there and really emphasize in the minors the importance of finishing in a fielding position instead of falling off the mound with your back to home plate."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. Can't wait to see what this kid can do at the big league level! Will be watching Tuesday night for sure.
As for the Phillies, I'm completely disgusted with that team right now. Today was an embarrassment to say the least. They should be ashamed of themselves. I'm done giving the benefit of the doubt. Changes need to happen and happen soon.Comment

It's just that the kids today and the coaches don't really feel the need to teach that aspect because it'd tinker with some of the more elaborate pitching motions we see these days.
With that being said, I do think MLB needs to look into some kind of way to help these guys out. A helmet is far too cumbersome but maybe a lead lined cap or something of that sort would be helpful.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
