Fsquid's annual "Optomistic about the Mets" thread.

Ahhh, pitchers and catchers reported today, along with Kaz, Reyes, and Wiggington. I love this time of year, because the Mets still have a chance at the division!!

My questions for this Spring Training:

Will Mike play some 1B this year??
Will Wiggington and Reyes continue to improve on impressive 2003 campaigns??
    Is Kaz for real??
Is there a deal to be made before opening day??
Will Ericsson bring around Lisa G. to show her off to us?
Will Reyes and Kaz become MLB's best double play tandem?
Do we really have to have a good RF to contend?

Oh well, right now, I say the Mets go 162-0 (as I say every year). Mets fans what are your questions for Spring Training?

Nobody is talking about the Mets right now. Granted, they'd need some things to break thier way, but they have some talent, and some unproven gems. Reyes and Kaz Matsui are the key. If they can play up to their potential, and Piazza stays healthy, there is some hope. I see Philly being the class of that division, but after that it's wide open. The Braves are down a bit, the Pirates are better, but not by enough. Who knows about the Expos? It should be a fun division.

The Mets could have one thing going for them and it could be there starting pitching, i think Tom Glavine will settle in this season and start looking like the Glavine of old, and not just like he's getting old, Al Leiter needs to have a good season, he has not pitched as well as was expected the last couple of seasons, Steve Trachsel, say what you will about him, but he keeps them in the game, Jae Weong Seo, decent rookie year, may do better this season, the 5th starter spot is a question mark right now, Scott Erickson may be the front runner, but struggled in his last season ('02), James Baldwin has not pitched well since '01, and Aaron Heilman looked awful last year, Tyler Yates is another candidate, as is reliever Grant Roberts,
the Mets strength may be in the rotation, a healthy Mike Piazza and Cliff Floyd would not hurt either.
