I seriously can't stand it when its 9pm in the middle of the 4th.

I don't know what they could do to speed up the game other than calling a rulebook strikezone. And the umps seem incapable of that.

That has more to do with a game starting at 8 PM EST than the speed of the game...if it's the 4th inning an hour in that's a pretty good pace.

He's in MN though. The problem we have is our starting pitching gives up a ton of hits and walks, so the innings take a really long time.

There was a time where Arlington Stadium/The Ballpark In Arlington would only play "Cotten Eyed Joe" during the seventh and forgo "Take Me Out To The Ballgame." A lot of the in-between stuff gets in the way.

I just think that this would be nearly impossible to accurately implement. Umpires are already terrible, and giving them yet another task would just be dumb.

Shoot me if they ever put a clock on baseball.
The next thing you know, they'll want to call an inning over if it takes longer
              than 25 minutes.
The game will be over when it's over, & they'll all be over by November.

Call me back when you're team has a closer that causes every 9th inning to last 20 minutes. You'll be begging for a pitch clock within a month.

Unless his avatar is just for fun, he's a Marlins fan...I think he understands all too well about pitchers making innings last too long. But instead of Papelbon being an *** and taking forever, it's just giving up lots of hits, walks, and runs

Keep it as is. It's part of what I love about baseball is that there is no set clock or time constraints.

It is fine. Most professional sporting events last 3 hours. Besides, a lot of it is the hitter's fault. Most pitchers want to work fast, but the hitters are the ones stepping out every pitch, taking practice cuts, calling timeouts, readjusting their batting gloves, etc.

There should never, ever, never be a pitch clock in baseball! That would just ruin the whole game. It would force both hitters and pitchers to speed up and get out of their rhythm. Not to mention that adding a pitch clock (and breaking that rhythm) will more then likely cause more issues with time because now pitchers are more prone to make a mistake and hitters will be more patient to wait for that mistake.

I played 4 years of college baseball on scholarship and I now what it's like from both ends. As a hitter, I would intentionally call time right before I knew a pitcher was going to start his windup just because I could screw up his rhythm and get in his head. As a pitcher, I would purposely try to change up my timing to keep the hitter on his toes but more importantly to keep base stealers at bay. Think about it...if you have a pitch clock and its winding down to and has only a couple seconds left, as a base runner I know that he has to throw home now and it allows me to get a much bigger jump and steal a base that much easier.

I think that the problem is that today's culture is centered around instant gratification. If we want someone to hear our thoughts we tweet them and get a response in a seconds. If we want to know the score of game we open up our ESPN app and check. I mean hell we complain when we're stuck in a line at McDonald's for more then a minute! There should never be a clock on baseball period and thats it!

I understand it disrupting the timing of the game to an extent, but no hitter or pitcher needs 30 seconds to get ready for the next pitch.

Outside of a copule horrible guys (Dice K takes 20 seconds between pitches) I don't think pitchers taking too long is that bad. For every Dice K there is a Buehrle. Fangraphs tracks how long each pitcher takes between pitches.

I think the problem is more of the hitters. Guys step out of the box, take a couple steps and look around, check out the third base coach, stroll back to the box, dig in, and then they are ready to go.

When I pitch, I like to get the ball and get right back on the rubber and throw. Fielders hate guys that take to long. Nobody likes playing behind somebody like Dice K. When I'm hitting, I keep my back foot in the box and step out with my front foot. Take a couple seconds to regroup and dig right back in. Anything else and feel like I'm throwing off the rhythm of the game.

Yeah as a pitcher I always did the same thing and wanted to get the ball back and throw the next pitch as fast as possible. As a hitter I had the same exact routine too. I'd always step in with the right foot, hold my back hand up to the umpire, bring my left foot in and then tap the middle outside corner of the plate then the middle inside corner. Then I would do like a small one-handed pendulum swing with my bat, bring it up and do two half-swings, and end it all with a two-handed pendulum swing. I know that probably sounds like a lot but it all happened relatively quickly but if I didn't do it I would be completely thrown off.

Science has proven that most athletes in general are creatures of habits. But, baseball players specifically are. I know that a lot of guys like Evan Longoria do the exact same routine every single time because that's there way of focusing and drowning out the sounds, their thoughts, and previous plays. It's there way of focusing on themselves on the present.
