I dont think that is what he is addressing. I think he is referring to the long term effects. I think more research has been done on cigarettes and more is uncertain about what exactly steroids cause. At the very least, I think there has been conflicting data about steroids. I think he is on point to think of it in this regard. As a fan, one might legitimately say, "so what, let them ruin their bodies" but in the position he is in, it is appropriate for him to consider the health related issues. I wish the players union would have thought this way regarding astroturf (namely Phila) at various times in the past.

well other than the intracacies of how each drug effects the body there is the glaring truth that STEROIDS ARE ILLEGAL and therefore any argument in support of players who take them is ludacris.

I dont like Orza either but like someone said, where do you draw the line...andro...creatine? Yeah, steroids are illegal but there are a whole slew of performence enhancing drugs that are not. If would be easy for them to go too far like the IOC were athletes get suspended for taking cold medication.
