    And financial reasons.

I was just curious, because they still have LeCroy on the roster, Rob Bowen was just sent down to triple A, and Blanco is there as well.

He has been playing well in preseason, so I assumed he would play. Thanks.

    Won't Lecroy DH?

Most likely. I think he only played catcher 20 some games last season. But I didn't know how they were to split up the minutes, especially with their OFs and Morneau who played DH a lot last season.

Re: Is Joe Mauer going to play?

Morneau is going to start the season in AAA. Gardenhire has publicly said that he is too good to sit on the bench, insinuating that he will not make the team unless he's an everyday player. He also mentioned how Mientkiewicz has first base locked up so basically his only hope of making the team is as an every day DH, which is unlikely. The Twins' bench will most likely look like this:

OF - Mike Ryan (will serve as backup in RF and LF)
Inf - Nick Punto (will be the team's primary back up at SS and 2B, but may serve as a backup CF)
Util - Michael Cuddyer (can play 3B, 1B, 2B, RF, and LF)
Inf - Jose Offerman (can play 1B and 2B but his primary role will be as a pinch hitter)
C - Henry Blanco (will be mentor for Mauer and will give him an occasional day off, Lecroy is also available to catch)
      Minnesota Vikings
      Minnesota Twins
      Chicago Bulls
      UNC Tar Heels

I don't understand this. If Morneau was so good, why did the Twins re-sign Mientkietwicz? He's a nice glove and a useful player and all, but wouldn't it have made more sense to keep the $$$, give the 1B job to Morneau, and use the $$$ elsewhere?

Yea, he is the Twins starting catcher unless he just has an awful spring, but I saw him on Sportscenter and he was 2-3 off Roy Halladay, not too shabby. He is the reason why they traded Pierskniski and b/c they didnt want to pay him a ton because he was playing well.

Mauer is the man .. He has the tools to be a very successful professional baseball player. Quick hands, good glove, will hit for a nice average. Power is going to develop over time, so I wouldn't be too worried about that. He'll be a great player.

Mauer hit his first home run of the spring today. I forget who it was off of but it was a lefty and he hit it to left-center. He's now hitting .409 (9 for 22) this spring. I think it said he has 7 rbi or something like that.
