So the thread I made over in the NFL forum brought up some issues people may have with how other sports sections are being managed.

I like the weekly game threads as well as the hot stove/awards type of threads that get stickied. Furthermore, the team threads are awesome…I really wish most fans were involved in their team threads because I love to read what other fans are saying/see what other teams are doing, especially in the offseason.
I guess my vote would be to leave things as is, but I'll have to see what issues were raised in the NFL thread…"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers Hornsby -
Re: Direction of the MLB forum threads
I think everything works well in the MLB forums as is. Weekly threads are enough, big enough situations get their own threads, and I keep my Marlins talk to the big threads since i'm the only one in existence.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

I will say I've always liked the single threads for hot stove stuff…it's just easy to see it all consolidated there. Regardless of what we do it needs to be one or the other…it's hard to follow when there is an individual thread to discuss Prince Fielder to the Rangers and it's also being discussed in the Hot Stove thread.
One thing that I like about a Hot Stove thread is the fact that small things that wouldn't get a thread get mentioned (no one is going to start a thread to discuss Sean Gilmartin to the Twins for Ryan Doumit) and then you have no where to discuss them.

Re: Direction of the MLB forum threads
I've never really liked the "one big thread for an entire offseason" thing. Works great as a catch-all for the little moves that warrant little-to-no further discussion, or for rumors, not so much more interesting/bigger stuff.
It's weird seeing pretty much no new threads for nearly 6 months. Keep the hot stove thread, but don't shut down new threads for individual moves. Let poster interest dictate if they're needed. If the interest isn't there, they'll die a quick death on their own.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

If we always had the one huge catch all thread, we wouldn't have had great threads like these.

Re: Direction of the MLB forum threads
Agree with this. It's not like there's a ton of threads in this forum causing clutter. Does Phil Hughes signing with the Twins or the Yankees signing Brian Roberts warrant a thread? No. But signings like Cano or Ellsbury, or a big trade deserve their own thread. Otherwise they get lost in the discussion after a day or 2.

Re: Direction of the MLB forum threads
I wouldn't mind multiple threads for different topics(instead of an all-encompassing)...but what I think the site really should do is have a DYNASTY section in each sports section.
I think they would get more use and much more traffic if they were front and center in each sports different section.
(I would really prefer each game section....but)

Instead of an arbitrary person deeming a thread not important enough for it's own thread I think the thread itself should dictate that. If people are engaging in a thoughtful discussion on a topic it doesn't make sense to close threads down and send them into a huge general thread. That messes up the flow IMO and makes forums such as this look like ghost towns.Comment
