    How good is Jason Bay?

I have a pretty solid outfield so far and am considering picking him up....I know there are a few people here who think he's awesome but his numbers from limited play last year didn't impress me...should I pick him up? Here's my current OF:

    R. Sanders (StL - LF,RF)
    C. Patterson (ChC - CF)
    J. Drew (Atl - CF,RF)
    F. Catalanotto (Tor - LF,RF,DH)
    M. Cabrera (Fla - 3B,LF) 3BLFUtilBench
    D. Roberts (LA - CF)

Jason Bay should turn out to be a good player, even though he is starting the season on the DL. He will only miss about a week of the season, and his rehab is going well. As a player Bay hits for average and for power, plus he has a good eye at the plate. Not to mention he is being handed the left field postition and there's not much pressure to perform right away. In my opinion he's definatly worth a pick up if you have the room.

He's got potential to be a good player, but i don't think he's superstar material. Think "solid". not "spectacular". For an outfielder, he's not going to provide too much pop, and his RBI numbers won't be too high, but combine all of his numbers and he'll be a little better than average.

...and I saw his first career HR. That's a pretty good omen cause the last player's first HR I saw was Richie Sexson.

Jason Bay should be a 20/20 guy, if not better with his home run production. In the SD farm system last year (his only year with us, with some time in 2002), he put up good numbers both with the bat and his baserunning. A lot of Pittsburgh fans are already claiming him to be the second coming of Brian Giles, although I beg to differ.

Anyways. he'll be solid for several years. He'll probably become a star player in his prime.
