Who will the Red Sox sign?

Latest Boston Globe article is reporting that Nomar, Pedro, Tek, and Lowe have all been offered contracts and have all turned them down. Story

Lowe has already stated he doesn't think he will sign with the Sox. Nomar still believes he is worth more than they are offering and "Martinez privately has told associates he expects to become a free agent." No real stance on Tek.

I'm trying to figure out what Theo's master plan is for this club. Any thoughts?

Nomar's homer off Pedro. Those four words just shouldn't go together. Not even on a day like 6/6/6. ~Bill Simmons

I know they were hoping Eric Chavez would become a free agent at the end of the season but thats not gonna happen. I'm really not sure who they will go after, Jose Vidro, Carlos Beltran perhaps? Though he wouldn't fill a position of need for them he's the first big name that comes to mind. I think the Sox want to wait and see what Pedro gives them this year and I think its 50/50 if he returns. If he expects to get 17 million every year he won't be back. Varitek I think has a good shot of coming back, I don't see him as someone who wants to leave and I think the Sox organization is really high on him. Nomor and Lowe are likely gone because I think both want more money than what the club is willing to pay.

I think their all gone, unless Shoppach hits about .200 in AAA this season Varitek is def. gone. Other than that Lowe and Nomar are definetley gone, there's a small chance Pedro will stay but he's almost definetley gone if he doesnt sign by opening day I think. I'm thinking they just offer them all arbitration maybe tek accepts but the other 3 wont, get the 6 first round picks they'd be awarded for losing those kind of free agents, and spend about half of the 30 million or so they now have available on new players.

                They will probably sign Maggs...

If Nomar and Lowe walk, which I think they will, they could pick up Vidro, and move Pokey to short. Edgar Renteria and Orlando Cabreara are also out there, but I think St. Louis will keep Renteria. There will be a little bit of a drop off in offensive production there. When Lowe walks, try and get Matt Morris, but that probably won't happen. I think they will move Kim to the 3rd spot, where he will do good, and move Arroyo into the 5th spot.

I think they offer arbitration to Varitek, and he accepts, giving Shoppach more time to develop and eventually take over. They sign Pedro, and Scott Williamson. Then theres David Ortiz, who is borderline, depending on how much he's asking. I think they would be able to find a suitable replacement for a DH who can only hit righties. Maybe sign Maggs and put Ramirez in the DH spot? I'd be happy with that.
