Well my Pirates also beat Philly, but I really do think they're as bad as people have made them out to be. They do have good starting pitching, but that's it. Their pathetic offense will catch up to them through out an entire 162 game season.

Don't worry we have Jose Mesa to save us

Seriously though...I don't think the offense is going to be quite as bad as people think. Especially once we get someone not named Chris Stynes to play third. I'd almost take Rob Mackowiak over him (note: I said almost).

I would like to see Littlefield pick up a good third baseman for Benson when he's eventually traded. Of course, we wouldn't NEED to pick up a third baseman if Benson hadn't been hurt last season....

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Definatly Stynes is the weak link of a bad offense. Third base should be what Littlefield is looking for when he's trying to dump Benson. Even packaging someone with Benson to get a third basemen wouldn't be bad (I'm looking at Jack Wilson. I think Jose Castillo proved he deserved a shot at the big leagues plus Freddy Sanchez will be back).

The only other thing I want to know is what does Craig Wilson have to do to get regular playing time after Jason Bay comes back. Mac seems to think Simon is a huge key to the offense and with Mondesi &amp; Bay in corners Craig will probably miss at-bats again.

I think the season won't be nearly as bleak as some people think but, I'm not expecting the Pirates to make a real playoff run on the other hand. Just get some of the kids time to play and see what they have to work with.

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

I really like Tike Redman. He seems to be the sparkplug that this team needs.

I also wonder about Craig Wilson. The guy is tied for the team lead in HR's during Spring Training, belts one today and we all know will be back on the bench once Bay is ready to play (Mondesi of course moving to RF). I'd love to see what this guy can do when he starts the majority of the games.

Oh yeah, if DL doesn't look for a 3B when he unloads Benson or Mondesi, then he's crazy! That seems to be the biggest hole in the organization. After trading Ramirez we really don't have any quality 3B on the team or in the minors.

I really like Tike too. He could use a little more power, but I can't complain. Especially with him on my fantasy team.

I really wish Lloyd would get his head out of his butt and stop putting Kendall at #2.

I was watching Stan and Guy one night and Lloyd was on discussing this. He said he wanted to put Kendall in the #3 slot, but it was too tempting to put him in the #2 hole?!?!

He's a much better 3-spot batter than a 2-spot batter. Jack Wilson has always hit best when he's #2, but Mac always buries him at #8, where he's consistently struggled. Kendall actually is the best option for #8 because he's not an RBI guy, but he consistently gets on base. Of course his ego won't allow for it.

Kendall should definatly be batting third. Let Wilson or even Hill/Castillo bat in the number two spot not Jason. Kendall batting 8th is an intresting idea, although I think the people of Pittaburgh would have somebody lynched to see their one high priced player batting in front of the pitcher.

As for Hill playing 3rd I don't think he's ever played there. From what I've heard he doesn't have the arm or the defense to really be a great option at third, on the other hand we had that Aramis fellow there so he can't be much worse. I know that Freddy Sanchez has played third and could be a possible option there, but for the rest of this year it's going to be Mackowaks when Stynes bombs.

The main reason I like Kendall hitting 8th is that he usually chokes when there are RISP, which is not what you want with your #3 guy. I wasn't a huge fan of Mac's lineup in a few places today:

Why is Randall Simon hitting 4th? That's an absolute joke. I'd put him at #6 and leave him there. #4 should be chosen from the following depending on who is playing (and in the following order): Mondesi or C.Wilson if Mondesi sits. Period.

Since Kendall won't be #8, I'd submit the following as my "everyday" lineup:

                              Tike Redman
                              Jack Wilson
                              Jason Kendall
                              Raul Mondesi
                              Craig Wilson
                              Randall Simon
                              Chris Stynes
                              Second Baseman Du Jour
                              Pitcher

Once Bay comes back, here would be my IDEAL lineup

                              Redman
                              J.Wilson
                              Bay
Mondesi (Craig Wilson if Mondesi is out)
                              C. Wilson (JJ Davis would fit here if he's playing)
                              Third Baseman (Mackowiak, NOT Stynes)
                              Second Baseman Du Jour
