Re: MLB Off-Topic
What do people think about this?
Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred said Monday that Montreal needs a new stadium to have any chance of bringing the sport back to the city.
Basically talking about likelyhood of MLB team returning to Montreal
Manfred said the league would need a strong commitment from Montreal for a new stadium before the league could seriously consider relocating a team or expanding there.
Spanish and French is somewhat similar,so it might be easier for some of those players to adjust to being in Montreal more.
Other than Tampa though, don't see need for any other team in the league to relocate, though even the Rays don't need to relocate to the east, cause you could always move a team like the Pirates into the east and Rays relocate to Central.Last edited by Majingir; 03-31-2015, 11:15 AM.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Well that probably changes Warren Cromartie's thinking now. He's always had the plan of moving a team, having them play at Olympic Stadium THEN worry about building a new stadium. It sounds like any move is contingent on having concrete stadium plans even before a team goes there.
I agree with you, Bell is the most likely match for such an ownership group with maybe the Molson family being a distant second. I don't think the Molson family has the deep pockets and willingness to spend like drunken sailors though.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

No, it wouldn't be easier in any significant way for a Spanish speaker to adjust to a French speaking environment. If anything it might another layer of difficulty. Italian or Portuguese, maybe, at the margins.Last edited by Master Live 013; 03-31-2015, 12:30 PM.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Really? Cause I knew people who spoke spanish and did real well in french class cause they said it was easier to adjust/learn it since they also knew spanish.
On another topic:
One way to help pick up the pace of play in baseball -- and provide a few smiles along the way -- would be to bring back the kitschy-but-beloved bullpen cart.
What'd people think? Bring back bullpen carts? I never once saw any of these, but think it'd be cool to have them back.
It'd really only mean 1 less commercial break(since the carts would probably only save like 15 seconds),but one thing I thought of, what if they also had ads on the cart? Reduce commercial time during pitching changes, but still make money due to having the ads on the cart instead.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Within five years the Rays will move to the Virginia Beach area. They will remain in the AL East (this actually moves them much closer to ALL of their divisional opponents) and their name will be changed. Once they are there, they will be called the Atlantic Insertnewteamnameheres and not the Virginia/Virginia Beach Somethingorothers.
Something like 7 of the top 10 most profitable minor league teams are in that region and they lack a real pro sports franchise. It is also a much more populous area than most people think, myself included until I researched it. There are also a lot of wealthy people in that area and by using the Atlantic name (as opposed to Virginia, etc) they can attract a whole region as a brand a la the New England (not Boston) Patriots.
This idea makes much more sense to me than a franchise failing for a second time in Montreal. Which it would.
In any event, RIP Tampa Bay Rays RIP.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Ban me I guess? I'll lay low on another account then haha. Everything is against the TOS.
I was banned for linking a user (that I knew from another forum) to an online league because the other forum was down.
It blows my mind how the OGs of this site have been active for 5-10 years without getting banned at some point.Comment
