          It was a hanging slider.

Also, the Braves rallied hard in games 5 and and 6 but Bobby Cox kept putting Luis Polonia in run-producing situations in the 8th/9th which he failed miserably (dude was 0-10 in the playoffs).

My dad was so angry about that. He liked the Braves. I was a Yankees fan. Go figure lol. But I remember him saying why the hell didn't he just throw his best pitch. Should of thrown the fastball.

I feel bad for this guy getting posted and talked about all over the internet for his use of the hotdog straw.

To me it's weird, can't imagine it tasting good but if that's his thing go for it. Probably should no better than to do it a baseball game (Yankee Stadium would be the worst place to try it, you're going to be seen).

Just kind of feel bad he's all over the place today because of it. Cell phone video's are one of the worst things ever.

yeah, I saw it on a CBSSports talk show this afternoon and the two hosts were trying to replicate it with a hotdog straw and soda water or seltzer, not positive which. and they both said it was disgusting. but obviously it was going to be that way: you gotta do it hotdog straw and beer . I'm definitely doing it at the next ballgame I attend. personally, I think it has potential to be pretty damn good. whatever, I'm not gonna knock it until I've tried it. and trying it with soda water isn't exactly trying it in my book

John Brebbia sees a large praying mantis on his way off the mound in the 8th inning, making him briefly diverge from his path to the dugout

idunno if MLB links work here but the broadcast in the Tigers/Giants game was obsessed with a praying mantis on the field

there are so many jokes to be made, mostly "if I was a Tigers fan, I'd be praying, too"

It was a slider, but it was also his third best pitch, dude threw 100 when nobody threw 100. I wouldn't care if it was a knuckleball, anything but a fastball there is unacceptable.

Really is just another chapter in what was an amazing decade but could have been an all time great one. Maddux was basically the Peyton Manning of baseball, great in the regular season, never pitched to his baseball card in the playoffs. Smoltz was still young and wild, but he would usually get you one. Glavine was the dependable one and seemed to stay out of his first inning troubles once October rolled around.

The 95 Indians team was potentially the best offense we faced in all of those WS and arguably the best team and that was the one we got.

I don't like Kirby Puckett, I don't like Joe Carter, but man 96 one hurts the most of them all. At least I feel a little vindicated knowing we got one last year we really shouldn't have.

I got a Bloody Mary with a beef stick straw at Ford Field on Thanksgiving at Lions/Bears a few years ago and it was amazing.

27 starts; he gave up 3 runs or less in 22 of them. 19 starts he gave up 2 runs or less... thats 70%

2 earned runs or less in 9 consecutive starts, 1997-1999.

                        I'll take that any time.

.. pitching wasn't the Braves problem. They could never hit when it mattered, especially their early losses.

                          2023 schedules have been released.

Weird seeing that a team will play all the other 29 teams in a single season. Cardinals will open the 2023 season at home against the Blue Jays

Phillies and Nationals are your 2023 Little League Classic

Will be weird seeing Jays open season on the road in an NL ballpark. And no home games for the Jays for almost 2 weeks. Makes me think the stadium renovations are really going to take all winter and a bit into the spring which is why it's at least a week later than usual for a home opener.
