If the Royals get more than the Cardinals, I'm wearing my sneakers to bed because the rapture can happen while you're sleeping. And people never take that into consideration.

It's important to keep in mind how these things are being measured. A large market share of a tiny market really doesn't compare favorably to a smaller share of a giant market. The Royals do not have the most eyes on them of any team in baseball...which is how these things are usually interpreted. The Royals also don't have the national following that St. Louis does.

To put that in context, depending on who you believe, the Tampa Bay Rays' entire payroll was in the $70-75 million range at the start of 2015. I'd say Friedman is enjoying his new gig.

I dunno, I think it's a bit of a stretch to say that it's all coming up roses. A lot of what the Dodgers are doing can be considered a cheat as they've got so much liquidity that they're paying a buttload of money for guys to play ELSEWHERE. There's only two other markets in baseball that that kind of scenario can even be considered. (NYY, BOS)

The haul he just got for the few good players and lottery tickets he gave up speaks for itself. This isn't all just Friedman though, Zaidi is very very good, and is used to working under a tight payroll, just like Friedman. 2 of the best executives in this sport.

Meh...I just don't think he got that great of a haul. There are a lot of "lotto tickets", as you put it, in what he got back. They all have question marks, from Latos to Wood to Peraza, and the rest are over the hill garbage.

I'll go on record - Jose Peraza will not be an impact major league player. He's severely overrated, IMO, and I e been calling for the Braves to trade him since last year.

Latos and Wood give LAD back end help, which they need bad. Pereza is expendable, and I see him getting dealt this deadline (maybe for Gallardo). Johnson is bullpen help, and Arroyo is someone they hope can help next year.

They gave up a 30 year-old Olivera, a decent reliever, and 4 lotto tickets.

Latos and Wood are above average pitchers he got at a very reasonable price. Peraza is just a bonus. The Kendrick deal has worked out very well, and the Grandal for Kemp trade is going to end up as one of the most hilarious deals in recent memory. Friedzidi or whatever you want to call them have also assembled a sick bullpen.

I think the moves they've made have undoubtedly been massive successes so far and this move will continue that trend.

I love it...Latos/Wood are now above average pitchers. I've said I was high on Wood on this board and gotten ripped by you guys that he's outpitching his peripherals and wasn't that good. Latos is on his 4th team in 4 years...lots of talent, but a real head case. Grandal for Kemp has worked out great for them no doubt. I'm not saying they haven't done well, but to jump on the band wagon and anoint them as geniuses before the trade deadline is even over is premature, IMO.
