Regular seasons should start April 1st every single year. Sports leagues really should set a fixed start date every single year. MLB starts April 1st every year, NHL starts October 1st every year. So we avoid playoffs running later that it should(in MLBs case, into November,in NHLs case, into late June).

Can't really start on the same day every year because of how MLB's series' are structured. Generally need to start on a Monday or a Thursday since it's the only sport where you play the same team multiple days in a row.
They absolutely should start AROUND April 1st and until this season they did.Comment

On that same token, I agree... but it shouldn't have to make any changes to the regular season. Baseball players play seven games in a row very regularly, so why not here as well? Make those seven-game series' without a break. Sure, you might have to go with a five-man starting rotation, but that's what it's all about man.
However, I'm in the camp that we should have 28-man rosters (with an active 25 for any one game), so...Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Both NBA and NHL dwarf the MLB playoffs but it's not about length, it's about playing the most important part of the season outdoors in November.

Aren't NBA playoffs longer? It seems they last nearly two months.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
There are several options none of which are real ideal. You could schedule all southern games for the first 7 games of the year (I haven't looked at the logistics specifically but I'm assuming along with domed teams that would be possible) but then you strip teams of ever hosting the true opening day.
Another would be to shorten the season which is probably the most viable and as someone who was very much against it I'm actually warming up to that idea.
Another that's been thrown out there is to play a few doubleheaders throughout the schedule. We all grew up playing doubleheaders but it's quite a bit different when you play maybe 2,3 games during the week and then a doubleheader on the weekend. These guys are sometimes playing 10, 20 days straight.Comment

Back to Utley: I think the 'Stros could really use his leadership in the clubhouse. They don't seem to be applying pressure in games where needed. They're not going to get leadership from Gomez.Comment

I think if they find a way to manage getaway days properly for every team, that doubleheaders would be the way I'd want them to go. I like 162. Yeah starting the season a week earlier is definitely problematic but i'd take playing in bitterly cold conditions at the beginning of the year over having them played during the most important games of the year.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

It's not like they're playing in below freezing temperatures most of the time. It's April, the average temperature is above freezing and is warming up as weeks go by. And some of the places with the colder temperatures have roofs that could just be closed.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Sure, playing in cold weather isn't the best, but baseball at least, guys can wear sleeves and stuff underneath their jerseys to stay warm. And keep warm in the dugout. They're only on the field for like 5-10 minutes at a time to begin with. Not like NFL where you'd be out there in rain/snow, even when on the sidelines.
