Expanding MLB's borders by putting teams outside of the U.S. would broaden baseball's reach, writes Jerry Crasnick, but finding the right location and making it work are easier said than done.

Oakland and Tampa Bay just aren't cutting it as major league homes. Christina Kahrl offers up new cities for both franchises that would maximize revenue for baseball.

2 more pieces from the series I posted yesterday.

Expand active rosters to 28 players, with the manager designating 25 eligible players for each game. This is a rule that exists in Japan and should be brought over here.
I've been asking for this since the first thread that we had on here asked for suggestions. This is a must.

Didn't know it was in Japan, though.

          Why is this a "must"?

Well, on that note I can't defend my statement. I should have just said that it is long overdue and I don't know if it has ever been considered as strongly while we're looking at things like DH for the NL, 154 game schedules, and optional protective headgear for pitchers.

I still don't know why it's even considered needed or even wanted.

Most teams don't use their bench players as is.

More guys to sit on the bench instead of playing? ...albeit at a lower level.

Third catchers aren't important to you? Not enough relievers in a series after an extra-inning game? Possibly even higher salaries for three more men? (or maybe the 40-man roster gives you an MLB contract, I can't quite remember)

I've seen worse rules take place in the past several years, ones that simply weren't needed.

Some more of those ESPN series I posted about last week.

As the Royals demonstrated last season, defense matters. And every team's defense would improve, says Tim Kurkjian, if -- for a few minutes before every game -- its players took infield.

Yes, MLB has taken steps to stop fans from being injured by batted balls entering the stands. But as Katie Strang writes, keeping fans safe should be an even bigger priority going forward.

Replay is good for baseball, Jim Caple says, but over-examining plays to catch a runner ever so slightly off a base for a fraction of a second isn't what the review process is intended to do.

Sorry, closers. For the good of baseball, Jayson Stark says it is time to blow up the save statistic and replace it with a new way of rewarding relievers that fairly measures bullpen performance.

Heavily in favor of the bold, heavily against the rest.

As far as replay, if it is in, they should enforce it fully. I still don't know yet if I like replay, but if a player gets off a bag for a second, then he should be out. I'm not going to agree with them on that. That's the reason for rules. Otherwise, there is a gray area.

Then again, I start contradicting myself because of the strike zone, but I don't want to get into why I don't want robot umpires calling balls and strikes. Now, keep in mind there's a difference between robot umpires, and umpires that maybe have some glasses tech that helps aid their ability to determine whether a pitch crossed the plate or not. But I still don't get how even current camera technology adjusts the strike zone based on the height of the player's batting stance. In fact, I don't even know if it does do it.
