No one is comparable to Mantle either. But it's just talking about this modern eras version of that player.
We can safely say Harper and Trout might be our generation's Mantle and Williams.
I don't get why either one needs to be a specific player. The fact we are getting two exciting very young players at the same time is enough."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: MLB Off-Topic
And clocking mound visits is good too. One change i hope to see one day is limiting mound visits altogether, regardless if its coach or players. Make it like timeouts. You're given certain amount in a game(number determined after researching average amount of visits a game), and if a team runs out, that's it. Only other mound visits allowed at that point are pitching changes(pitching changes obviously dont count as timeout).
Cause sometimes teams have way too many mound visits and it gets annoying. It's those moments fans boo, especially when away guys do it. Pitcher could stand there for 30 seconds, throw nothing, then catcher goes to mound. Sometimes we'd go over a minute without 1 pitch being thrown, despite rules supposed to be 15-20 seconds.Last edited by Majingir; 02-25-2016, 12:35 PM.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I do think they should limit catcher visits to the mound. I know it's been a part of the strategy as long as baseball has been played, to send the catcher out to talk in order to warm a guy up, but it's gotten ridiculous with how often the catcher runs out there to work out signs, talk mechanics, etc.
I'd like to see them limit the catcher visit to two trips/inning/pitcher and for each additional one it's an automatic ball or something along those lines.
Also, I know that everything evolves into specialization...but, I'd like to see baseball move away from the relief pitcher specialization. I know why we're here, but it doesn't make for the best baseball, IMO, as a fan. Instead of the "pitcher must pitch to one hitter" rule, how about making it two or three hitters instead? I'd just like to get rid of the bring in the LHP for one batter, bring in another reliever for another batter, etc."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

I like reducing between inning clocks by 20 seconds. When mlb said they wanted to change pace of play last year, this is what i was hoping for. Change like that which doesn't impact gameplay at all.

If the catcher visits the mound, the next visit from catcher or manager is an automatic pitching change."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. I think they should limit pitching changes each inning.
There's no sense in seeing 3 pitchers to get 3 outs and it taking 15-20 minutes to do so.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
It's funny how some argue that the DH is dumb because they want to see players who aren't one-dimensional. But in the next breath, they think it's fine that a LHP is only brought on to pitch to a LHB.
In general, I hate how overcoached all sports are these days.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
You're right, 15-20 minutes for an inning is ridiculous. The walk to the mound is too long. The amount of warm up pitches is too much. The need to talk to the pitcher AGAIN after those warm up pitches is unnecessary. Either talk in the beginning or after.
It can all be packaged so much better.
First step I would make mandatory: the new pitcher must come in as the manager steps onto the field. No need to signal anyone. You call it in and the change begins.
If this doesn't happen, the change is disallowed (exception being injury) and the pitcher on the mound must face the hitter.
There are phones, the catcher is in constant communication with the manager. Most already know what's happening next. Lefty is coming in to face the Lefty. Let's stop with the show. Call it in. Tell the catcher to call timeout. New pitcher comes in from Centerfield or wherever as the manager grabs the ball from the mound.
Next, as soon as the pitcher takes the ball, he starts warming up. If the manager says anything to him, it's considered a mound visit. Move it along. Warm up.
Third, 5 warm up pitches. They don't need 8. They've been warming up in the pen.
Lastly, if the first conversation didn't happen, only now can one occur between catcher and pitcher. And it's 30 seconds long, max AND considered a visit.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
More Pablo news...he faced live pitching today and pretty good pitching as well (Price). First ball he hit went to the warning track. So he will be fine...
