I dread it coming about every 4 years. For one, it really messes with the "routine" of the regular season as players aren't in camp with their teams and it pushes the regular season start back a week or so. Secondly, for some of the teams (ahem, USA), the best players don't play and treat it like an exhibition anyway. I can't blame a Clayton Kershaw or Mike Trout for not playing as anything other than MLB regular season games are exhibition in a way, but it really takes away from the luster.

Anyway...I just dread when this tournament rolls around. Just don't like it.
The more baseball in my life the better, so I enjoy the tournament.
Saying that, it's not like watching hockey in the Olympics because the best players aren't always playing.

I'd rather they held the tournament in the middle of the season so that everyone can play.
I think it was James Guthrie who proposed it and even had a schedule that would work.
Especially if MLB went back to 154 games.

It is all fun and games until Kershaw goes down and needs Tommy John Surgery.

I guess it's just scary for me to think of seeing those guys 14 or so times a year as a Blue Jays fan.
Prime Pedro (1997-2000) already is the greatest to play in his generation. In fact, he had one of the greatest 4 year stretches for a pitcher of all-time. His 4 year peak (1997-2000) is better than Sandy Koufax's 4 year peak (1963-66) by about 2 full points of WAR. During his peak, Pedro only had 122 starts, whereas Koufax had 150 starts. It took Sandy freaking Koufax 28 more starts to still be less effective than Martinez by almost 2 points of WAR during their respective peaks. Try to wrap your head around that for a minute. That's how great Pedro Martinez actually was. The best pitcher I've ever seen.

Exactly...I can't see any person putting up numbers close to those of Pedro for a while probably the same 40 year year period. And I would also argue that Pedro's peak was the GOAT.

Pedro as a Yankee would have robbed us from "Who's Your Daddy" chants and him dumping Don Zimmer on his head. Thank God that never happened.

He's saying Prime Pedro could not live up to the ESPN hype of Prime Yankees Pedro.

Yep, he's been hired since Thursday IIRC.

He seems kind of bland but we'll see how he does when they're wrapping around through live games during the season.

Interesting discussion about that Pedro/Jeter trade.

I'm sure if it went down Jeter wouldn't have finished his career a Nat. Probably would have been traded at least once.

On a somewhat related note, I kind of like Pedro's pitching breakdowns on MLBN.

Pedro is awesome as an analyst guy. I just wish I could understand him better.

I'm really glad we get to hear him and Smoltz analyze the game.
