He's certainly healthy right now. Let's see who bites.
What did they say his velo was like in the stretch? I'd be intrigued with the notion of using him out of the pen. If so, i'd wonder if the Jays would make a courtesy call to help bolster the flagging bullpen though they're pitching a little better right now.

IF, and this is a HUGE IF, the Cubs steamroll through the season and win it all, I motion that "Rebuilding" should be forever renamed as "Epsteining."

He was still sitting 88-89, with a couple touches of 90. The key is going to be in his control. You can still get big league batters out at that speed if you can spot. Especially if he's still got the plus secondary pitches.

His velocity wasn't what made him good, it was his deceptiveness.

I know he changed his motion so I would be curious to see if that was still there more than anything.

Yeah, the change in speeds is what made him really good. Was never a high command guy, which is why when his speed really bottomed out he just couldn't get anyone out most days. He was basically relying on hitters being impatient and stupidly swinging at everything. Which sometimes works lol.

No, I get that...but you and I know everything else builds off the fastball. He had hitters worried about the 95-96 and then dropped a hammer on them and they looked foolish. When his velocity slipped, you saw hitters eliminate his offspeed stuff because they knew they didn't have to be geared up for the fastball. Not having the velocity greatly reduces his "deceptiveness".

I would have said this is a ridiculous idea two weeks ago, but now it almost looks like Jesse Chavez and Gavin Floyd are like undefined setup men, Cecil a lefty specialist, and Storen a generic middle reliever. Lincecum could be a legit long man when needed, and grind innings as a starter when Sanchez has to move to the pen or Stroman has to skip a start later in the season.

The two Chicago teams were both the first to 20 wins in their respective leagues for the first time since 1917.

                      That should be Hutchison's job.

Never would've guessed that happening, especially being he's only acheived >200 IPs once. More importantly, I was sure Strasburg would be traded at the deadline or at the very least simply not resigned.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Even more impressive is that he signed in the middle of his start.

Strasburg also got a a player op out in year 3 and 4 so there's incentive for him to maximize his potential as much as he can. Thing is, I don't think there's much more potential left in the guy.
