I think even just calling it G.R. Field would sound (slightly) better for fans. Don't have to acknowledge what GR actually stands for, but that at least sounds decent.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I don't think fans really acknowledge the dumb corporate names. If Yankee stadium becomes W.B. Mason stadium nobody is gonna call it that lol
That name is beyond stupid, you really gotta sell out to name your field guaranteed rate.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Not a fan of the White Sox new stadium name, but let's be honest, people will get used to it just like they got used to US Cellular (or the Cell as most in the area ended up reluctantly calling it). I remember a lot of this exact same hand-wringing back when it was changing from Comiskey to US Cellular, and after a few years nobody really cared that much anymore. Time has a way of making strange, new things familiar, imo.
Guaranteed Rate Park still objectively sucks as a name though. On the bright side, perhaps that means the seat prices will be sold at a guaranteed rate and can never change?Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Most name changes are met with hate. Sometimes it's justified, other times it's not. Either way, people always get use to it,and others don't.
Even here, most just accepted Rogers Centre, but there's still people who call it SkyDome. And some still holding out on a future compromise of Rogers Skydome(even though it's been 10+ years, and never a sign it'd happen). I hear American media people still calling it that, and I know non sports fans who live here that still just call it that too.Comment

Intentional walk attempt to my boy Descalso led to a wild pitch and scored run earlier today.

Puig placed on trade waivers today. Not likely to get moved.

I never thought naming rights worked for the buyer anyways. When people here talk about where the Rangers play they either call it Arlington Stadium or The Ballpark in Arlington. Outside of the organization or the media I never hear it called "Globe Life Park". The same is true for Cowboys Stadium.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Jays put Thole on irrevocable waivers. The purpose being so that they could bring Navarro onto the main roster(so he'd be playoff eligible as well), and then re-sign Thole afterwards to keep him on the 40 man roster to catch Dickey for all of September(and Thole won't be playoff eligible, meaning Dickey might not have a spot on that roster either).
The reason I bring up all that....Is there any chance some other team in the AL actually claims Thole to ruin the September plans for the Jays? Claim Thole, meaning Dickey either doesn't pitch in September, or Martin/Navarro would be forced to catch for him. For example, what if Red Sox claim Thole and make him Wrights catcher?Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Lol if Dickey literally can't pitch w/o Thole then he's pathetic. We don't even need him, he's the 6th/7th best starter on the team. Bring up Bolsinger for a start or three to keep the extended rotation, then it's pretty much playoff time anyway.
Martin, Navarro and Kratz have all caught the knuckle before iirc. If any AL team did claim Thole they'd be wasting a weirdly large amount of money to not really change anything."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
It's not that he can't, it's that Martin doesn't want to catch him. I'm still hoping they just move Dickey to bullpen for playoffs. I think having a knuckleball sandwiched between two regular pitchers in a playoff game could throw some guys off.Comment

Speaking of Robert Flores, the guy seems like a big time wrestling fan. I was half listening/watching MLB tonight and he kept busting out wrestling references. He even went gaga when they showed video of Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake and other '80s wrestlers being at the Marlins game.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
