Re: MLB Off-Topic
Which is all fine and good until Team 2 blows them out in Game 1 14-3, but Team 1 wins 1-0 on a walk-off.
Congratulations Team 1! You move on the Division Series!
Sorry team 2, we realize you were fantastic in Game 1, but Team 1 only needed to win one game. Your season is over.
Seriously, that is a non-issue and nobody would ever have a beef with that specific scenario. They may have a problem with the format in general, but that particular series (no pun intended) of events is just the nature of the beast.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

And people will always have an issue with everything. I guarantee that for every specific scenario imaginable, there is a group of people out there just waiting to beef with it.Last edited by WaitTilNextYear; 10-03-2017, 01:46 PM.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Look, the system isn't perfect but it accomplishes a couple things by keeping excitement alive for a lot of markets during the season and gives a built in hook/drama to the early part of the playoffs. I'm willing to live with that.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I think trying to come up with new ideas just needless complicates the whole thing and waters down the regular season to a certain extent. You start doing this kind of tinkering and it just becomes too confusing.

So anything the league can do in order to keep out of market fans interested is a good thing.
I know most members here are national fans, but the majority aren't.
I love the wildcard game. I cannot wait to watch them tonight and tomorrow.

Lol, my 14YO would love that joke.
He got a bad joke calendar for Christmas. It's his most prized possession, haha.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I've actually always wanted the one seeded WC team to just need to win one game with the away team needing to win two.
Make the lower seeded wild card take two out of three on the road to earn their spot in the playoffs.
****Preferably I would get rid of the second WC team but since that isn't going anywhere the above would be my preferential setup.Comment

Think its more the nature of the different sports leads to more upsets than the talent disparity.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I actually like the current setup. The more I think about it, the more it seems a good balance of rewarding teams for winning their division and excitement of a 1st round knockout between non-division winners. Also, much improved now that the All-Star Game will NOT decide home field advantage any longer.
Only thing I would change would be to make the Divisional Round a best of 7. Shorten the regular season, get rid of interleague play would be part of that deal and allow the playoffs to finish before November.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Not sure where to put this but here goes:
Major League Baseball is investigating the Arizona Diamondbacks over possible use of an electronic watch during the National League wild-card game, reports Joel Sherman of The New York Post.
Arizona coach and interpreter Ariel Prieto was photographed wearing what appears to be an electronic watch in the dugout during Arizona’s 11-8 victory over the Colorado Rockies Wednesday.
The Boston Red Sox were fined an undisclosed amount by the league last month after using such a device to steal signs from the New York Yankees.
It is unknown what the repercussions would be for the Diamondbacks should the reported investigation prove wrongdoing, but MLB commissioner Rob Manfred issued a statement after the Red Sox incident, saying “All 30 clubs have been notified that future violations of this type will be subject to more serious sanctions, including the possible loss of draft picks.”
