    Re: MLB Off-Topic

Looking at the netting it isn't THAT bad. It's not like the view is so obscured and if it keeps people safe than i'm okay with it.

I don't see the huge deal with this. They've had netting like this in Japan for YEARS with no issues.

I'm sure people won't care about it after a few years.

Only thing that'll suck about those nets is that it blocks above the dugout. Those are usually where you see kids sitting and getting a ball or something else from a player from time to time, so with a net blocking them, that won't be happening anymore. Obviously safety first, and something minor like that isn't more important than safety, but still sucks you won't see those little moments anymore where a kid gets a lifetime memory getting tossed a ball from their fave team from the dugout.

If anything, you could argue the value is increased because you’re getting the best views and your personal safety is significantly less of a concern.

It’s a net that is easily seen through, it’s not like they’re taking the WWF blue cages and sticking them in front of the seats.

One is an aesthetic/fan interaction thing that is just an annoying side effect of the times, the other is a butchering of the functional part of the game itself.

There's still seats past the nets on the 1st/3rd sides if you crave having baseballs shotgunned in your direction at random as you're trying to eat a hot dog.

You're saying that everyone's perspective (opinion) should be respected (I'm inferring, let me know if that's not what you're saying), then you go and disrespect anyone's opinion that the game is boring and things can be changed for the better.

I think there's a bit of difference between mere fans having different opinions on aesthetic things and whether, for example, netting provides an obstructed view for them when viewing with their eyes and then being mocked and belittled for it if they dare have a different opinion that goes against the enlightened view and super upper baseball management wanting to do things that are diametrically opposed to the sport he's supposed to be heading up.

But eh. Whatever. I'm sick of this discussion every three days. We're not in a position to change ****.

From tonight's game between Holden and Maurepas High School, something I have never seen before:

edit: his explainer is...well he has a point.

“Once the runner leaves (the base) he’s established his base path,” Gregoire said. “There is no original base path anywhere. Once kid takes his lead and takes off, that’s where his base path starts. When he went to the outfield, that’s where his base path starts. If the ball was put in play he either had to run straight to second or straight back to first, he wasn’t just going to run across the field. We were trying to make them throw a pick to throw the ball to first so we could score the run from third. We confused the umpire worse than we confused anybody else. It was something we’ve been working on and we wanted to try. It was an opportune situation to do it in. Holden did well, they didn’t make a throw anywhere.”

For 2 minutes, 32 seconds of pure chaos, a high school state championship game in Rhode Island 14 years ago today entered a parallel universe -- and unleashed the longest hardball stalemate of all time.

                        Rubbish.

Outside the spirit of the game.

Gotta agree with Steelerfan. I've seen crazy and quite frankly unsportsmanlike gimmick plays in high school football. We don't need that kind of crap getting into the baseball ranks.

Getting into?? This kind of stuff has been around for decades, and that play is just the tip of the iceberg.

The worst I've seen is this play. This is from a college game, but I know high school coaches that teach this play since there's no way a 2 umpire crew will be able to see it.

I'm sure many of us here played organized baseball. Even in highschool level you see teams deploy all kinds of tricks.

Nothing is that new. Depends on the coach and their style.

My high school coach didn't like any of it. Didn't mean we weren't witness to most of it when opposing schools pulled stunts on us.
