Anyone remember Byung-Hyun Kim? The sidewinding reliever from Korea that used to play for the D'Backs? Apparently, he just retired today after playing most recently in Australia. One could only hope that Scott Brosius was there to homer off of him at the press conference.

I was amazed when I looked up his age and found that he was only 40. I thought he would have been near pushing 50 at this point.

He's the first guy I ever saw pitch from underneath. Tried to emulate him so much that I had learned how to do it myself (like, and actually locate and throw a breaking ball). Thanks, Byung-Hyun!

Nope, was too young. Although I started playing baseball at a young age, I don't really recall watching it intently on TV until I was maybe eight years old or so.

Even if I did, I wasn't yet old enough to be cognizant of the fact that his delivery was different to say: "Hey, that's something I think I'd want to try!"

EDIT: Besides, Eck was still "over the top" when it comes to throwing from the side. The Mandela effect for me kicks in when thinking about Kim, because I always thought of him as an actual submariner ala Bradford. I know that he wasn't quite nearly that low, but he was still underneath that of a conventional sidewinder to me.

By the way, I learned to pitch submarine, not from a side slot.

If these losers are insistent on doing this clock garbage, they should do it only if nobody is on base. And no visible clock at all. Anywhere on the broadcast or in person aside from that in-between inning clock.

              As inconsequential as possible.

              Don't ruin tension-building moments.

How does watching the pitcher walk around the mound or the batter tie his cleats build suspense?

I also thought Kim would be pushing 50 too. He was a pretty solid reliever back in the day til Brosius became his personal nightmare.

There should no pitch clock, that's my position. But if you are going to have a pitch clock then it definitely should be shown during the broadcast. How could you not? The clock is affecting the game, the clock provides me with information.

But this won't work. I mean really? Are you going to decide a game, 2 outs in the 9 and the batter has 2 strikes, has been warned before so he takes longer than the 5 seconds allotted so you are going to call him a 3rd strike and end the game? Get the **** out.

First time that happens we start burning some stuff down. It just won't fly.

Also, looking at the rule it says: "The clock is reset to 20 seconds when the pitcher steps off the rubber or attempts a pickoff". THEN WHAT'S THE ****ING POINT!?

They have to throw the ball in 20 seconds...or they can just step off? This is just stupid upon stupid.

They don't have to throw in 20 seconds, they have to come set.

Y'all are being so dramatic about this. Just like after the slide rule at second and home, the intentional walk rule, and the mound visit rule, I'm guessing people hardly think about it anymore unless you're just looking for something to complain about.

And I got to say, I'm quite disappointed in my baseball brothers. To put such weak resistance, in fact some welcoming a tectonic of a change like a pitch clock to baseball has been jarring. I guess I hardly knew you.

For those worried about the visability of the pitch clock. At Camelback Ranch it is in 2 spots. On the scoreboard in right centerfield and one behind home plate. Not directly behind home plate, but off center a bit. Looks just like a shot clock in an NBA arena.

Pretty sure it will vary from stadium to stadium if implemented for the regular season.

                              Hate the new rule.

                              and the mound visit rule,
I'm okay with this one, but when implemented I felt it was just piling on this needless process of trying to quicken the game.

I'm guessing people hardly think about it anymore unless you're just looking for something to complain about.
You know this isn't true. Even if it was, it's likely because any time I bring it up, people would just say: "Are you still on that?" People who are against certain rule changes can't win.

I am very against many rule changes, and when they surface I am upset at the sport that I am watching.

My love for baseball is unconditional, but my love for Major League Baseball and their rules is not. They are literally changing the essence of the sport that I love and some of the reasons for which I love it, and just because I don't talk about it on here (which I actually do, quite often... heck I even blogged about the collision rule at home plate) doesn't mean it's not a problem for me.

And really, my problem with the majority of these rules is that once you go forward with it, there is never going back.

By the way, I don't mind this new pitch clock rule, but they should be careful about how it's enforced and I'd like for it to be dealt with "behind the scenes." There is no reason for the rule to not simply enter the league quietly. They're going to have to be careful in stretch situations though, specifically with a runner on second. I guess if a pitcher can step off then it's no biggie, but they'll have to have an internal clock that hopefully doesn't get in the way of what they need to focus on most.

Then what's the point if they can just step off? Are we going to "shame" enforce it by tsk tsk at pitchers who step off a lot?

I'm not opposed to all changes.

Not problem with the slide rule at second or the mound visit rule (in general). Not oppose to extending the netting from base to base to protect fans.
