Good info in here re: punishments. Cardinals docked 2 first rounders and $2M for accessing a database.
Astros were using cameras and/or buzzers to steal signs in real time that surely affected games, and even potentially a World Series outcome. That is about as bad as you can get.
I suspect Manfred will come down hard, mainly on the manager, coaches, some front office folks, and any specifically singled out players (the bullpen catcher who may have relayed the signals, for example, though if any players are found to be leading the charge they’ll get some too). Probably a year off at minimum for non-players.
If you can’t take their title away, and let’s be honest, you can but you really can’t, take away time from their career. They need to feel this.
Can’t let this stand. It’s poisoning the game, the integrity. Like knowing a crooked ref officiated your game... always a question in the back of your mind. I don’t have any love lost for NYY, but they’ll never be able to know what if. That’s disturbing to me. Goes against what sport is about. Especially in a sport that has had some infamous incidents of wrongdoing. The commish has always come down severely on them, at least in the highest profile ones. (It was hard or impossible to isolate steroid use, but it left a cloud over the game for the better part of the last decade and a half that were only recently getting out from under IMO).
**** any BS loopholes either. Make them take it to court. You cheated, blatantly and arrogantly.
As they say, yerrrr out!
