      Re: Memo to Lloyd McClendon:

That was some great clutch hitting by the Pirates today....

This isn't to say it affected the outcome of the game, but that third-strike call to end the game was a joke. That ump squeezed the strike zone all game, and then he calls that??

            Some Random thoughts so far

Not a very good game on offense today, with the exception being Craig Wilson who is hitting everything it seems. But knowing the Pirates he'll be on the bench with the return of Bay

Jack Wilson looked a little worry some on defense. Maybe it's still the lingering shoulder thing but he didn't look nearly as comfortable. His hitting though over the last couple games has been a nice surprise.

Every time I see Josh Fogg it makes me wonder what his future is with the team. If he stays there is no way he should keep his starter spot with all the young guns coming up. I wouldn't be opposed to throwing him in with Benson and possibly getting a better 3b prospect back

Sytnes...Ack. We'll he sure isn't doing much for the offense. I don't think he has a hit yet this year, and I think he left 4 men in scoring position today. Get Mackowiak in there, and least he has more upside. He definatly isn't the final answer there but at least he isn't Stynes

Bobby Hill seems to be doing pretty well against Major League pitching. He keeps playing while Castillo sits waiting for a lefty to pitch so he can get some at-bats. Hill is making a case for being the everyday second basemen but I still want to see what Castillo has.

And on a final positive note Boeringer didn't give up any runs today. He still looked awful getting out of a bases loaded jam, but with his superb pitching today he has lowered his ERA from infinity to 18. Congrats on the acomplishment Brian.

Right now, Wilson is our only viable hitter as far as driving in runs. Mondesi has looked like CRAP so far. He'd better turn things around soon, or people are going to start comparing him to Derek Bell (which wouldn't be fair at this point).

He always does this. He'll make great plays and then he'll botch a routine one. I don't think he will be around once Freddy Sanchez come back, what with Hill, Sanchez, and Castillo on the team.

Fogg will be gone either this year or in the off-season. He's eligible for arbitration after this season, and with people like Burnett and Van Benschoten on the way up (Bobby Bradley too), there's no way the Pirates will want to pay Fogg $2 mil+.

How is this for next year's rotation?

Use Stynes as a defensive replacement at third. He made a sweet pick last night, but that can't make up for him being a total zero at the plate. It seems like he's too busy dancing around in the box with that stupid stance of his to actually be able to hit the damn ball.

Yay...he only ALMOST walked in another run last night. I was kind of hoping they would have shown an infinity symbol or INF in his ERA stat overlay, but it was just a dash.

This may be his personality, but his body language on the mound suggests that he just doesn't care what he does out there.

On a more postive note, Grabow looked really good! I've been impressed with both he and Johnson in their first appearances (what, 4 strikeouts in 6 batters?)

                        WHY....IS....SIMON....HITTING...CLEANUP??

Sometimes I think Lloyd goes out of his way to screw Craig Wilson.

Another thing...why start Cota? Why not place Wilson at catcher and start JJ Davis?? Cota is a bigger zero at the plate than Stynes.
