It was his elbow that bothered him last fall, he had surgery on it in the offseason.

I like Smoltz and still think he has quite a bit to offer, but I think it would be a good idea to trade him for financial reasons. The way management is cutting payroll, he may be traded after the year anyway, so trade him for a good young reliever. He makes 10mil+, I'm not sure how much specifically, but that would be a lot of money that could be used elsewhere.

It's also been reported that Smoltzy will be giving way to Chris Reitsma if the Braves get into back-to-back save situations, as John doesn't feel confident enough in his arm holding up back-to-back nights.

To be honest, Reitsma is DAMN good in his own right, not TOO much of a drop off.

Um no. He's still throwing in the mid 90's with great movement. It's just location. All 3 HR's were just in a bad location.
