I couldn't be happier today. For once I did not have to hear some idiot comment from a Cubs fan on campus, it was nice.

All of them were still in shock.

      Re: Pirates @ Cubs

I didn't get to see today's game (at work), and from the score, it looks as though I should be thankful.

I'm not too concerned about Maddux ... yet. If I remember correctly, he struggled at the beginning of last season too, and then settled down. He's not going to dominate like in years past, but he should be able to keep us in games ... provided (and here is my concern) ...

... the Cubs get that offense out of its current state of ineptitude. From the few games I've been able to see, the Cubs are plagued with an irritating lack of patience at the plate. Not sure if that was the case today, but here's hoping they work a few counts, get some better pitches to hit, and ultimately score some runs.

This is not the start I (or any other Cub fan I imagine) was hoping for, but it's early. Plenty of time to right the ship. But we have to remain close in the division with the Astros and Cards (and the Reds, Brewers, and Pirates at this rate!!) while Prior is sidelined (assuming he'll even come back this season), or it could turn out to be a long season.

      Go Cubs!!

I didn't see the game, so I can't really comment with authority about their plate patience. They didn't strike out much today (I think there were only 2-3). It seemed more like they were just hitting into outs. They only had one hit off Benson, and their runs came from 3 errors and some walks.
