Re: Today\'s Players Or Yesterday\'s Players?

I think the hitters of old would do just as well since the game is more hitter friendly, and the parks are smaller.

The older pitchers would struggle for the same reason. And I think a lot of today's hitters would struggle in the old parks. How many HRs would Bonds have now if he were still in Candlestick? Or a park like Forbes Field?

The hitters would be as good if not better based on park dimensions these days and diluted pitching due to expansion. I could easily see someone like Mays, Mantle, etc putting up monster hr numbers year in and year out. Heck, imagine what Ruth could have done had he played in the smaller stadiums that we see today. The pitchers would still be good but would not have some of the wins and losses records due to the evolution of the 5 man rotation and game specific pitching. This is taking all of todays advancement out of it. I mean there was no year round training back in the glory days where now you see people like Clemnens and their off season training regiomen. It is so hard to compare eras in any sport but baseball I think is the easiest.

Let Babe Ruth play one full season at Coors Field and tell me he would not hit 80+ Home Runs.

thats probably conservative......another thing youd get by infusing the "old school" players in todays game, is that i bet EVERY single one of the legendary players would be shocked and disgusted with how pampered the current MLB players are...i mean, the Cy Youngs of the world pitched EVERY DAY, Mickey Mantle played with that "thing" on his hip....now, somebody splits a anil and theyre out for a week

Can you imagine if they tried to put Cy Young on a 90 pitch count?
