How 'bout that other team from L.A,!

Deep in the heart of Lakerland there is another team making some noise in Los Angeles-The Dodgers, the Dodgers at 9-3, are off to there best start since 1997, have a five game winning streak, and despite giving up 4 Home Runs to Barry Bonds swept the hated Giants in San Francisco over the weekend.

The Dodgers made very few moves this offseason, they had the leagues worst offense last season, but so far the bats are doing there job in the early going, Paul LoDuca is leading the league in hitting (.512), Adrian Beltre is off to a great start, batting .362 with 4 Home Runs and 13 RBI's, both are tops on the team, the biggest move the Dodgers made came literally at the last minute, when the Dodgers acquired OF Milton Bradley from the Cleveland Indians the day before opening day, Bradley has been a huge pickup for the Dodgers, while he is hitting only .255, he has driven in 12 runs and has solidified the number 3 spot in the Dodgers lineup ahead of Shawn Green.

The Dodgers pitching, which was there strength last season, has been a little shakey at times so far this season, Odalis Perez has been the teams best starter posting a 3.20 ERA and striking out 22 batters in 19.2 innings, Hideo Nomo and Jeff Weaver have looked awful at times this year, both posting ERA's well over 6.00, one potential bright spot in the rotation could be Jose Lima, Lima had a decent outing on saturday, giving up only two runs in five innings, his first start as a Dodger,
but the main story on the Dodgers staff is Closer Eric Gagne, who has now converted 68 straight saves.

The Lakers may win another title this year, but, if the Dodgers continue to play as well as they have, this summer people in L.A. may talk about a Dodger playoff run, rather than the tired old Shaq vs Kobe, and put away the purple and gold for some Dodger blue.

It's only 12 games for them, wait til the All-Star Break, then I'll start taking them seriously.

It's funny because the Dodgers use to be the TEAM in LA. Guess times have changed.

People here in LA were very wary about the season - especially after the horrendous spring training, most Dodger faithful were ready to write off the season.

Being fairly pessamistic, I think the overriding sentiment is "it's only 12 games into the season". Wait till All-Star break to start talking.

Not saying that I'm not estatic with what has happened, and I hope they can keep it up (as I just saw they lost to Col 7-1 ).

BTW, they are still fairly popular in LA (although definitely not where they have been, and not like the Purple and Gold) - the biggest fashion statement is a Kobe Jersey with a Dodger hat .

Here's to continued success and a postseason birth (hopefully at the expense of the Giants )
