Mark Bellhorn tied for the ML lead in Walks?!?
Right now, Red Sox utilityman Mark Bellhorn is batting just over .200 with an OBP near .500. As of this post, he has 18 walks. Barry Bonds has 18 walks with more plate appearances than Bellhorn. I don't get it, are pitchers all of a sudden afraid to come in on Mark Bellhorn? And its not that he is benefiting from close calls either, a lot of pitchers are way out of the zone against him. Certainly he cannot keep pace with Barry Bonds but he is definitly one of the early season surprises.Tags: None -

I always liked him when he was with the Cubbies...and was sad to see him go...like I was with Mueller...and now both have turned out good. Oh well... -

I think it's more the switch from NL to AL that's causing the pitchers to be careful with him. They haven't really figured out how to pitch to him, and they know he's a decent threat to go yard, so they're just being careful.Comment

Re: Mark Bellhorn tied for the ML lead in Walks?!?
He actually showed me something when he was with the Cubbies, hitting for pretty good power and average. After switching leagues, pitchers most likely don't know the complete report on his swing yet, causing them to be more cautious than is probably necessary.
However - all of this doesn`t mean much, considering we're only about two weeks or so into the season. I`d love to see Bellhorn do good, though.Comment
