Re: Most Memorable Game This Century

There's so many.....Some have already mentioned and attached them. Here's one where 2 HOF announcers said was "Improbable/ Impossible" and "Unbelievable"

Game 162 for all the wrong reasons (**** you, O's and Longoria) and that Cardinals' Rangers game are up there for me for non-Sox games - I didn't really keep up on baseball in the early 90s so my opinion is really only from the mid/late 90s and on.

Now, personally as a Sox fan more than an MLB fan...

-Game 6 of the 2013 ALCS. I was there in person with my dad and two sisters so this is always going to win for me. The lows for most of the game, followed up by Victorino's grand slam and then Koji's strikeout to end the game. Just an incredible all-around experience.

-Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS. Millar walks. Roberts steals second. Mueller drives him in. Ortiz walk-off.

-Game 4 of the 2004 World Series. Wasn't a great game or anything, but the end man. I only had to suffer through a couple of years as a Sox fan before winning the Series, but I saw my Dad's reaction and that was enough to understand.

I just can't think of anything else besides Freese and the walk off. I can't describe my elation. And it wasn't just the home run. It was the Allen Craig homer, the Freese triple, the Berkman 2 strike single to tie it up AGAIN. And of course Chris Carpenter's refusal to give up the lead the next day. This is my top, because it's one I saw with my friends and we went bonkers when he hit it.

BUT there are some other great ones. You can't forget Don Larsen's perfect World Series game.

        Or Kirk Gibson's home run.

And it's not a WS, but Ozzie's go crazy is right up there too.

And the only walk off world series win in history, Bill Mazeroski in 1960 beating the Yankees. I'd have loved to see that.

There's Enos Slaughter's mad dash, Joe Carter's home run, so many more.

            Chicago was amazing.

August...hot...Cubs were doing well, best record in the NL that year by 5 games...sat in the LF bleachers...got sunburned through my clothes, I swear...almost unbearable.

Zambrano scratched...Marshall spot start...Werth homered, Cubs lost...

Phils went on to win the Series...

So...yeah...I was there when the season turned, at least that's how it seemed to me. Cubs went on to lay a big egg against the Phils in the playoffs. I felt like my going to Chicago was a bad thing...I just had this feeling that that series, a 2-2 split, just marked the shift in the balance of power...the Cubs were on the descent.

A more sober consideration...I imagine those day games, so many of them, in that climate, could really exhaust a team as fall approaches.

Gave Pat Burrell ish all day though.
I was at that same game, it was August 31, 2008. I went with my wife for my birthday, Zambrano was scheduled, scratched, then they had Marquis warming up, then at the last minute, pulled him for Marshall. It was something like a 5-2 Philly win, with Werth hitting an absolute shot into left field into about a 15 mph wind. Like you, I felt the air kinda deflate from the tires that day.

The Cubs laid an egg against the Dodgers that year…they never got to play the Phils. From that day of your game they went 12-13, so it certainly seems like that was a turning point in their season.

Man, hard to believe that 2008 has been 6 years already…I was ready to buy into the 100 years since 1908, Cubs when the WS thing. They played really well that year…baseball is always better when the Cubs are doing well (which isn't often).

                This trade

                I'll NEVER forget this...

The Puckett reach HR in game 6 of the 91 series

                A few more -
                Mercker's no-no
Braves getting no-hit by Randy Johnson
                The David Ross walk offs
                Braves finally winning in 1995
                The Marlins beating Cleveland
Steve Bartman game where I realized Dusty Baker hates pitchers
Aaron Boone's walk off vs Wakefield
Kirk Gibson's walk off vs A's
                Earthquake game in 1989
Joe Carter's walk off vs Phillies in 1993
Ron Gant's walk off HR of Rob Dibble in 1993 on an ankle high slider
His other walk off (single) vs the Giants when he lines a single off the pitchers rump
                Arizona winning after 9/11
Mark McGwire's HR off Trachsel to break Maris's record
Bud Smith's no-hitter before 9/11 - last 'normal' day in America for some time.

And one that STILL gets me upset - Braves vs Cardinals in Chipper's last game with the bases loaded, outfield 'infield fly' call that cost the Braves the game.

I think that is about it. I know it is a lot
