Starting our pitcher, needs some help

I dont know if this belongs in the baseball forum or everything else so I'll just put it in both.

Hey guys, I was playing baseball with some of my buds a couple of days ago and they asked me to pitch. As you may know I am not big on baseball(seeing that I rarely post on the baseball forum) and I didnt really know what to do. So I went out there and threw the ball and starting getting a bunch of strikes. I kept smoking my buds and they wanted to know if I would pitch for their intramural team.

Anyways I was wondering how the hell do you throw a knuckle ball or curve. I bet this sounds really dumb but I have never even played baseball before. I just have a really stong arm(from football). Any help would be realy appreciated. Thanks!

Considering that it takes a long time to master either one, I don't think you'll have much luck with this, since it's going to be text, but anyways....

(I'm assuming you're a righty. If not, reverse the directions)
Curve: Have the ball oriented so you create an inverted U with the seam. Place your index and middle fingers along the right seam, and your thumb below. Use pressure with your index finger but not so much with the middle finger. When you throw the ball, snap your wrist down. The pressure on the right seam from your index finger will produce spin on the ball that makes it curve. The amount it breaks left/right vs. up/down will depend on whether you throw overhand, 3/4, or sidearm.

Knuckle: Hold the ball the same as above. Bend your index and middle fingers so that the ends of the fingers are against the ball (the nails, etc). When you throw the ball, use a "pushing motion" with your arm and also flick your fingers out as you let go. Ideally, this will produce little or no spin.

I'm not sure how much this will help -- it's much easier to show than tell.

Yea thats pretty much it, but you said you have a good arm so don't mess with the knuckle ball. Knuckle ball takes a long time to learn, and most of the people who throw it, do because they can't throw hard, so they need to find another pitch that works. Concenrate on the fastball, curve, and change. And remember to try throwing fastballs with different grips. It doesn't matter how hard you throw it, you need to get movement on it too or it won't be any good.

          Thanks guys!

In football I never really had time to plant my feet as well as pitchers do (my o-line sucked ). So my question is : Do your legs play a big role in your throw and how can I imporve in that area? I have been watching pitchers movements lately and I think that is helping.

Yea, Legs play a big role in how hard you throw. To improve, I don't know, someone else can help you there

If you use all of your arm and little body, you will have one messed up arm.
