Yes I did. I got most of my blisters from swinging a broom 100's of times a day. It helps bat speed. I probably swung the damn thing 500+ times a day. I usually ripped most of my batting gloves doing this, but it helped a lot.

Good idea, I will do that.

Just a regular, everyday broom, right?

                  Re: Wow, this is disgusting

Yes it was just an everyday broom. I actually bought one that was a little heavier than a typical plastic broom ( thicker wood shaft instead of the traditional plastic).

I'd do sets of 15. This way you won't get bad mechanics swinging the broom over and over again when you were tired. It was like lifting weights. I'd swing like normal, set, swing again, set etc... If you do it real quickly, there's a possibility you'd develop a "hitch" or something else that would hinder your swing.

The end of the broom causes wind resistance when you swing so it strengthens the same muscles used when swinging a bat. I guess you could compare it to a bat with a weight on it, but the end of the broom adds more resistance.

After doing a 100 or so of these, pickup a bat and swing. The bat will feel like a feather!

I also used to do soft toss with a broom. Of course this required 2 people, but this would improve your hand-eye, ability to wait and hit to the opposite field (tosser had to throw the ball to the back of your body for opposite field and front of your body to pull - muscle memory sort of thing) and bat speed.

Hope this helps. I did this stuff all through HS and in college. The more you swing (even hitting off a simple tee) the more comfortable you'll be with your swing and the more comfortable you'll be hitting.

Thanks, but, won't this also kind of affect some things? Like, the handle of a broom is much smaller than the handle of a bat. You always want to be familiar with a bat's handle, shape, etc. You think this is the way to go, or just I just get a bat sleeve?

Should I really try the hand urination thing?

I'd stay away from the hand urination thing, but that's just my opinion!

Actually the broom I used had a thicker handle and also had a black rubber sleeve on it. It was comparable to a bat. I know what you mean though. One of those plastic brooms (kitchen brooms per se) are much thinner in the handle. I went to Home Depot and got the one I used. It was thicker and more durable than the thin "kitchen brooms". It was also heavier.
